I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this question, I'm still new here. I'm looking at getting a 110ba. From the reviews its would seem this is the better choice. I wanted to here from the guys who actually shoot them and not the guys on the bolt gun forum that haven't. So which is best the Savage 110 ba or Armalite 30m, both in 338 lapua?

Can't help you much other than to say I have a Savage 110 in 338 and it is a shooter. .5 MOA groups out of a $1,200 gun is hard to beat and with the weight, balance and muzzle brake it is a pleasure to shoot.

Good luck.

I too am looking at making the exact same choice...If you have plans to hunt with the gun I think the Savage is a better choice. I think its lighter and easier to carry. that Armalite is BIG and heavy. I would probably pick the Savage as well!

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

Elk hunting in Wyoming was the intention for my Savage so you have hit it on the head. It is heavy enough to make shooting pleasant but light ennough to pack in the mountains.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

I also can not speak for the other rifle but I do have a 110 BA and it shoots very well. I am not made of a lot of $ so it is easy for me to say. For the price, I would pic the savage any day. When I was making same decision I had to remind myself that once your shooting out that far (1000-2200yards). Ya its the barrel for sure but alot is mostly the quality of the round/reload and the shooter anyway. Not sure where .375 got his 110 BA, he must have got a really good deal and im jealous, lol. I bought mine for 1960.00 from hinterland outfitters and I thought that was still an awsome price for a rifle that can do what it does. So far best groups are 100yards under MOA with 5 shots and 5 shots at 1100yd and 2 of them were on target in a 4inch group and other 3 were hanging off to the left about 4 more inches from the wind but total still under MOA.

Well just got off the phone and locked in my 110ba in 338 lapua. I'm pretty exited to get it. With any luck it will be here in 2 weeks. Now I need to figure out glass for it. Any suggestions? I plan on shooting out to 1000 and beyond.

I'm jealous too. The price tag is almost $2000, but for what it does and the features, it seems like a reasonable price.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

Sorry for the confusion. I have a Savage 110 in the HCS Precision stock, not BA. The BA was too heavy for my use in hunting.

I actually went on line and bought 2, One for $1,225 and the other for $1,250. They were scarce at the time so I ordered 2 to make sure I got one in time to develop loads for elk hunting this fall. I sold the second one on this site

Mine shoots sub 1.5" groups at 300 yards and I am sure the rifle will do better, I am just not that good a shot (eyes are not what they used to be). Getting 2715 fps with 300 gr Scenars and 3175 with 250 gr SMK's.

Sorry for the confusion, I didnt get the deal of the century on a BA.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

Congrats on the order, awsome. As far as glass goes, it alwasy sucks spending the $. But I would go with a Leupold mark 4 or a Nightforce. My self, I have the Leupold mark 4, 8.5-25x50LR with TMR redical. I want to put this back on my F/TR 308 and get the Nightforce 12-42x56mm with the np-r1 redical for the 338LM, but the wife has other things in mind.lol. Either of these will have small redical lines laser etched and the TMR for sure has nothing in the very midle of redical. So what im saying is, that is good b/c if your shooting that far you dont want to be covering up you entire target with your redical lines. And make sure it is 30mm maintube. If you get the mark4 with 50mm objective the mark4 med rings will work with about 1/8 - 3/16 gap. Just dont cut the rifle short with cheap glass.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

lol, damb. Sounds like it is shooting good though. Nothing wrong with that, I would like one. How is the recoil? And ya if your shooting off hand hunting a lot then that would be a show stopper for an elk or bear.

It is still the same length barrel right? Just not as heavy without the fluts and diff break?

I got to use my crono for the 1st time the other day, and was pleased with my load. 300gr SMK @ 2756FPS was my avg of 6 shots, and they were only 4 FPS off from the slowest to fastest. That was 87 degree outside. The next morning it was 55 deg outside and did it again. Same exact thing so I think ill just stick with my retumbo.

Thats the Nightforce i was looking at but I have the same problem with the wife. Lol I was hoping to keep the first one under $1000 and then upgrade this summer when work picks up. Then swap what ever I get now over to my 300wm.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

You should call leupold (18005387653). Get a VX3 6-20x50 or the 4.5-14x50 and see how much the would charge for just the tmr redical to be put in it and a M1 click turet on the vertical for you. These are still nice scopes and I'v had a vx3 just not with the tmr and they are still quality clear glass. The only thing it will not have that the mark 4 does is 30mm main tube, M1 windage clicks, and the bigger stronger internal parts. A friend has this on his 7mm ultra mag so I dont think the recoil of the 110ba will come close to the abuse he will put his through and it is fine. To me that laser etched TMR is the main thing though. You can even pay 30$ and have them put custom built for Mike V.lol. I think you will find iether one is under 1k. probly 750-1050 range. Im thinking on doing the same thing for myself to go back on the F/tr 308.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

It is definitely a shooter.

The recoils is not bad at all. It has a very effective brake on a 26" fluted barrel. It may be the same barrel as the BA, not sure. I know the BA chassis is a lot heavier.

The rifle still weighs about 11 lbs with the 5.5 X 22 X 56 Nightforce so the weight also helps. I also think they put a good deal of thought into the stock drop and recoil is very manageable.

I really like the gun so far. I was getting a little more velocity out of Retumbo initially but ran out temporarily and dropped back to H1000. I have another 8# of Retumbo now and am going to check consistency with that over the next couple weeks. It is my powder of choice on my 375 CT but still workin' in it for the 338 LM.

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

awsome, did you meet a son and dad there named dave or jody? Ya im not far so i think im going to do that with the 110ba also. Dave told me the corse record was 58 out of 60.

How did you do. Is the magnum class going to be a walk through corse also?

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

Im not sure but I bet so b/c of how close to the witington center it is. I find out though, a friend of my dads has rv park in eagles nest and he knows the area. Maby 402 seen one when he went?

Re: Savage 110 ba or armalite 30m338

First off I appologize to the op as I didn't mean to hijack his thread. I shot a 39/60. it was my first time shooting the course so I won the "best new shooter" prize. Now the honeymoon is over! The course record is 58/60 and a women took overall with a 57/60. There are some graet shooters that go to this match every month. My shooting buddy took 3rd and he has been shooting the match for 1.5 yrs. it's a tough course! be ready for wind!!!! Here is the web site for Whittington, looks like they have camping sites there but you will need to check out for RV.

The match is held on the north side of the center and not on the center proper.
