After building and warming up to my 6.5 creedmoor AR10 pattern rifle, I finally had the chance to chrono some factory loads. I wanted to save some weight with a shorter barrel, barrel but was unsure what kind of velocities I would end up with. After my google-fu failed, I decided to go with 20" and just see how that played out. Barrel is from WOA.

Data from last weekend at 90' elev., 65*F, ~60% humidity.

120 gr AMAX (Factory)
2806.2 fps 10-shot avg

140 gr AMAX (Factory)
2682.4 fps 10-shot avg

Hope this helps if you had similar velocity vs barrel length questions on the 6.5cm in a gas gun.

Thanks for posting, looks like the 120 is the way to go.

20 inch LMT, factory 140 amax's 2800fps 1500 ft, 70 degrees.
Sounds high,I know, 1.2 mils to 300 mtrs

Re: Sharing: 20" 6.5 Creedmoor Velocity Data

You guys are getting good velocity. My 21" bolt gun only gets 2730 with the factory 140's. That velocity should be good for 1000 if you are so inclined. I wouldn't run the 120's. They have a pretty low BC compared to the updated 123's. I don't know why Hornady is using the 120's at all. They should really just drop them and make more of the 123's!

I know, but that velocity matches my come-ups to 500 mtrs,,,

Re: Sharing: 20" 6.5 Creedmoor Velocity Data

What do you figure the max range is on your 6.5 with both bullets? Also how many mils hold over would you need at these ranges. I have a .260 for an LMT and am wondering if I need a 0 or 20+moa built in. Hoping I can get 1200m with a 0.

Re: Sharing: 20" 6.5 Creedmoor Velocity Data

Tom, that's impressive velocity! Must be that dry AZ air... nice.

Scarlett, for the 140, I calculate 45.5 MOA to 1200 yards under my typical conditions. I have not shot to confirm that yet. The 120 takes 50.1 MOA but velocity falls below 1100fps after about 1150 yards according to this program.

I'm going to shoot the 140's until I accumulate enough brass to try some loads with the 123 scenars and amax.

Thanks for posting hard data. I'm interested to know what a reloader can get when pushing the limits.
