I was dead set on getting a Vortex Razor HD and then I saw that there is a deal on Zeiss Victorys at Cameraland. They are marked from 3500 to 1999. It is a SFP instead of the FFP. It is the 6-24x72 with a 43 reticle, which is a mildot.

Which would you pic, I like the idea of a FFP and I assume that the Victory is a SFP. So that is a plus to the Vorex but the glass I am sure would go to the Zeiss.

What should I pick? It is for a long range hunting rig, it goes on a 30-378 or a 338 edge.

this is what I see from cameralands page.

For what you are doing, you have to give the Zeiss strong consideration. Great optics and low light performance, more magnification. Reticle travel goes to the Razor but with the caliber you are using shouldn't be an issue unless you are popping critters at a mile or something.

FFP is great and functional, but is not needed on a hunting rig, IMO.

$1999? Dang, I paid too much for mine then.

I have the Zeiss 72 and it is practically a spotter on a stick. It ranges at 12x so if hunting is what you want, then the Zeiss is great. You can really see details far out plus have outstanding low light performance. Yes, it is SFP and only comes in SFP.

Re: Crap, another scope option

One drawback with either is the too-high low end for hunting. Just the opinion of a hunter who has shot as many animals under 100 yards as over 200 yards.

Re: Crap, another scope option

We generally have 2 firearms for hunting. I have a 300win mag browning abolt with a 3-9. This gun weighs 16lbs, so it wont be carried anywhere except to the top of the hill. I live in Colorado, and 20 min from my house I can go from 5800ft to 10500. We have lots of possible high vantage points right off road. Just have to pic the right one. We are looking at having 3 bull tags in a Trophy Unit this year, I am trying to get setup so I can shoot with the eqiuptment I am going to use. And I have lots of time to practice etc.

One a side note, if I am closer then 100 yards I usually let them get a little further away. I dont want to shoot a elk with a 30-378 at 60 yards. It is bad enough at 300, at 60 yards I would be covered in blood splatter.
