Resizing brass problem

I just got a new set of Forster micrometer dies for my .308 but I have an issue I cannot figure out. The first case I resized compressed the neck down inside the shoulder of the case. I have never seen this before. It is probably something that I have done wrong but I can't figure out what it is. I followed the directions and am using imperial case lube with RCBS press. The brass is Lapua. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Resizing brass problem

Forster sizing dies have an adjustable sizing button. If you have the button sitting too high or low, you can have problems. From what I remember from the instructions, your expander button should be adjusted where it sits just below the inside of the case neck at the bottom of your sizing stroke. As you raise the press handle, you should feel the button start to go into the case neck right away (within 1/8" or less as you raise the press handle).

That's only other thing I can think of at the moment.

Re: Resizing brass problem

Sounds like your resizing button is too high in the die, so what's happening is your neck is being resized down by the die body and the button is being pushed into the neck at the SAME TIME. Your neck is being pinched between the two.

screw the decapping pin down until the button goes into and past the neck before it is resized by the body of the die.

Thanks for the replies. That was what the problem was. I remembered when I set the die up a few days ago I moved the decapping pin because it looked too low. When I moved it the expander ball went with it.
