20 moa base for AIAE

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

Murphy Precision can make you one. He has made several custom bases for me in the past.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

Why bother??

just get the correct AI one piece mount.20/28/45 plus options from Sphur etc,.....

Just FYI, Spuhr options do not work on the AE rifles.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

I really like the Farrell base, and I especially like how low it gets my scope to the bore. That's why I chose it over an AI mount.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

Ken Farrell makes the model I like (a custom order), a 30 MOA aluminum.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

I don't see a whole not of need for it on the AE.

Here is why:

1. The AE MkII/III supports a 1.4-1.5" sight height quite well.
2. There are at least half a dozen top end mounting systems that offer cant built into the mount.
3. Going "low" isn't necessary because the cheek piece has a HUGE range of travel.
4. If you buy a $4K rifle, chances are you are going to at least spend enough money on the optic to get enough travel to keep up with the .308.

IMHO it's an solution in search of a problem. I use the AE MkII as my mount and scope test platform. I have yet to hit an issue where I wished it had a canted base.

Now on a Remington 700 where you need to get low and usually cannot use a one piece picatinny mount, you need a canted base when using lower travel scopes.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

My mk11 has the semi slotted rail. Which works fine except that
it is actually to low for me, even with the extra tall 35mm rings, my razor is a little to low due to my funky cheek bones.
I also cant move move the rear scope ring far enough forward because the base only has a few slots in the front and back.

Yes, I know I could use a mount with cant built in, but I also use my AE as a test platform for optics. I want to be able to mount up a scope with what ever rings are on it and test it out.

I dont need the 20moa, but I have found that by having the the same cant base on all my rifles, the poi is very similar if I switch optics.

So far the Farrell looks like the best option, but im still looking.

Thanks guys.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

Our 1,46" high mounts works on the rail that AE rifles have instead of a picatinny rail.
If someone put on a picatinny rail instead of the "instead of rail" there is all our picatinny mounts works well.

I belive the US optics picatinny rail is a good solution and I cannot see the aluminium as any problem at all.

Re: 20 moa base for AIAE

Update for anyone else looking for the same,
Ken Farrell now offers 0 moa and 20 moa fully slotted bases for the AIAE. Very reasonable price as well.

I agree with you on the height - most people who buy AIs in my experience tend to have problems getting properly aligned behind the scope if they use low or medium rings. My AE with GG&G rings wound up being literally too low for several people to get any sight picture at all without removing the cheekpiece entirely.

As far as built-in cant, that all depends on application. I finally purchased the AI 34mm 45MOA mount and a set of 34mm-to-30mm adapters to maximize the adjustment in my Nightforce - right now my 100 yard zero lies about 13 or 14 MOA up from the bottom of the scope IIRC, and I have 91.5 MOA of vertical travel available to me within the optic before going to holdovers. Retarded, useless, and counterproductive for a duty rifle, but absolutely mandatory if you're insane enough to want to push a .308 out past 1400 yards for fun.

+1 what the man said is correct.
