PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

I am really liking the 114. have a 116 as well, but once you get used to 14.5, for some reason the 16'' units look that much longer.

The PWS unit will be solid, I have no doubt. BUT, the mags still _______. Your stuck with C Products or their new ownership and they are hit and miss. A miracle would happen if Magpul would produce units, No one would keep uppers in stock - IMO. Especially as prices keep climbing (reloading or not), the russian ammo etc will still remain cheaper to shoot. Well, unless importing goes ___s up.

AR15Perf. (Harrison B.) built mine, and a 6.8spc. The units are excellent and he is good people.

For the money - PWS pricing is very fair for what you get.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

7.62x39 in an AR magazine is a mistake. C-Products are hit and miss as already mentioned and that equates to how many you are willing to purchase and send back (at your cost for shipping) to get the number of spare mags you desire. I was sending back about 2 of 3 I purchased. I will say once I had good mags it was a fun rifle.

Want to shoot cheap ammo with 30-30 performance pick up an Arsenal AK and a case of Yugo (brass cased) ammo. You will be into it about the same as if you just purchased the PWS upper.

Dead set on on the AR platform, go with the 300 Blk. About the same 30-30 performance and considerably more expensive unless you reload BUT it functions reliably in the AR.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

I tried and tried and tried to get my Colt 6830 (factory 7.62x39) to reliably run with anything other than 5-round mags. Couldn't do it.

So I sold it.

My SKS is good for those times I feel the urge to shoot cheap ammo.

Otherwise, I'm much, much happier with my .300 BLK.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

Just picked up a mk114 yesterday and so far I'm nothing but impressed with the quality of the product.

This is funny...DMack Larry Vickers and Paul Howe weigh in here on page 2 and the piston haters magically vanish from the thread:

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

Dont think anybody is bashing the PWS here.

The issue is 7.62x39 in an AR dont give a damn who made the the upper the magazines are the weak link.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

It's almost irresponsible to make an upper when there are no good magazines available. It will just generate a lot of problems and unhappy customers.

If anyone could actually make a working 7.62x39 magazine they'd have an instant hit as there is 20 years of pent up demand for this and the difference in ammo price is only getting bigger and bigger. Not to mention those states like mine where hunting with an AR-15 is legal, but the minimum is 30 caliber.

It makes me wonder why nobody is trying. Or maybe they have been trying, but nobody has succeeded.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

I will preface this post with this: I have no experience with this product. As I contemplated getting the upper in 7.62 x 39 Stacey from PWS stated they and their customers have good experiences with these mags: http://www.ammosc.com/storename/ammunitionstoragecomponent2/ViewDept-273398.aspx
I ultimately did not go with this upper because I was choosing a platform for work. I will, however, be getting one soon for my personal use!

LOL they say they have no affiliation with C-Products but they started making mags the same time C-Products went under and they are located in the same city...my guess is they purchased the tooling from C-Products as they were going under.

I had the same luck with ASC as C-Products meaning I had to purchase and send back a few to ultimatly end up with mags that worked and I had to pay shipping to them. When you get mags that work they work well just be advised you may have to try a few before you get ones that work. FYI the issue with all of the ones that I had problems with was that the magazine catch notch was too large and the magazine sat too low for the BCG to strip the round from the mag. In their defense they replaced them no question it was just a hassle I wasnt happy to go through repeatedly.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

The upper is top notch. I've got a 110 (10.5") on an SBR lower and it's 100%. I've personnaly never had a problem with my C-products or ASA mags in my AR. I think it's a great .30 round for the AR platform and the PWS should eat all the fodder that's out there all day long.

Rock River Arms is producing and releasing their AR-47 that will take AK-47 mags. They don't offer a stand alone lower yet but rest assured...if it works, and works well, people will be burning up 7.62x39 barrels in ARs...and the PWS upper and RRA lower would be a nasty combo.

An $800 Arsenal AK-47, with KVAR KVO-4 mount and optic might suit your needs as well and be a less expensive project. A lot of folks bag on this round because of accuracy. They're shooting surplus or combloc ammo...go figure. Purchase some american made brass cased, or hornady's steel cased 123 grain ballistic tip, ammuntion and you will be very surprised with the results.

Yeah, but if you're considering a 7.62x39 upper then you must already know that it isn't going to change the way the mags function and it just doesn't matter to you.

Re: PWS 7.62x39 upper ???

My Opin is the 7.62x39 AR platform IS one to have in the closet and for wkend fun, as Someone??? someday will produce a mag that's worth .05c......then it will be viable.

That is, until the The Block starts producing 762x40 or 6.8spc or ???
