Guys this will be a hunting rifle and I'd like to see what you all think on the specifications below.
Broughton 1-8 #3 @ 26"
Stiller Tac30
McMillian Edge
Huber or Jewell trigger.
Coated all black with Talley rings.
Will be shooting 120-130grn bullets MAYBE some 140grns!

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

Those are very good parts and looks like a solid build.

My only recommendation is that if it's a hunting rifle, you might consider a 24" barrel instead of the 26". With the 130's in a 24" you won't have any issues running them 2,850-2,900 feet per second pretty easily without any pressure issues at all. Broughton barrels typically are known to run a little faster also. Most people find the best accuracy with this caliber around the 2,900fps area. Many have went to 3,000 and above, but accuracy sometimes falls off or isn't any better anyway. So, the 2 extra inches of barrel aren't going to benefit you much on a hunting rig.

The 6.5x47 really shines with the 130's. Some will say that the 140's are a lil heavy for the x47, but some run them with good results.

On the trigger, I'd stick with a Jewel or Timney for hunting purposes. Will this be a DBM setup of a BDL setup? Sometimes they can be a little finicky when feeding from a BDL setup. You can make them work fine, but sometimes they require a lil tweaking.

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

Who's building it for you? The ADL/BDL is fine. Sometimes on a BDL setup, the smith I use will swap in a ADL spring and follower to help it feed better. Something about the way it's sits a lil higher in the back end with the ADL spring.

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

Trevor what kind of velocity are you getting in your shorty x47 and the 130's? I've decided against the .308 and x47 builds I was gonna have done and go with 2 x47's. One of which will be for hunting and around 19-20" threaded for my can.

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

I've got a 22" and 31".
With 140 Bergers, 31" 2950fps, 22" 2800fps
With 129 Scenars in the 22" I get 2825fps.

I thing 24" is plenty for hunting, I'd probably go 22" again for 130's

What powder to get the 130's to 2825 out of a 22"?

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

My 6.5x47 has a 24" Brux on it. I'm just working up loads and getting it broke in but I'm running 140 Amax's at 2800 and 130 vlds at 2900. Both over Varget so I'm guessing I could get more speed with a bit slower powder.

Mines throated fairly short with about .104 freebore so the 140's seat a bit deep but the 130 vld's are just above the neck shoulder junction. I planned on using mainly the 130 vld hunting but the 140 Amax's are shooting awesome too. With a longer throat you might be able to get even a bit more speed but I'm pretty happy with the 140 at 2800 over only 37.5 grains of varget. My go to load in my 26" 260 only clocked 2775 with the 140s.

I'm doing the same with 37.5 gr of Varget in a 22".

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

I just finished the AIAW 6.5L build, copied my buddys gun with reamer and barrel. He shoots 34.8 grains of Varget behind the 130 Bergers, says most laugh at his light load but did a 2.5" group at a local 1K BR match.

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

Luv x47 with a short barrel, I run a 20"
123 skinnies @ 3023fps
for deer etc hard to beat 123AMAX

the new high energy powders negate the need for long barrels, thou application is very specific my results show it is very doable

Re: 6.5x47 Build K

i have good results with the following
lapua brass
imr 4350 38 grain
cci small rifle magnum primer
scenar 123
loaded into the lands a wee little bit
