I have seen this on hear before lots of times but I could not find it when I used the search. So would someone sympathy on me and give me the rundown on how many nrounds between cleanings. I can remember to clean after every round the 1st ten rounds but after that I can't remember.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

Shoot till it don't shoot no more, spray down with a hose and continue shooting.

That is not far from what I have done, Have two rifles with about 400ish rounds down and have yet to clean them, that was my barrel break in.

I actually believe someone has posted results of doing a "barrel break in" and showed no gain from doing all that cleaning.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

Clean it real good before you shoot it get any chips debries from the build

Shoot it

Depending on the caliber and conditions clean every 300 ish

lots of good articles on this topic. Also lots of variables, factory barrel, custom, etc

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

Who knows?

I shoot/clean each shot until I can see that copper fouling is going away....but that better happen before I've shot 10 or 11 rounds, because I'm gonna let it rip at that point regardless. My Bartlein settled in 5-6 rounds, my Savage didn't. In fact, my Savage didn't settle for 300-400 rounds.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

The smith that trued my action and installed the barrel (remington take off) is very reputable. He told me to clean it good when I got it home and then just shoot the hell out of it. So I think that is what I'll do. nothing more or nothing less. Oh yea the smithe/shooter that did the work is Bobby love in Jefferson City,MO.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

There is a sticky at the top of this forum that is pretty detailed.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

I have performed the one from
badger_barrels

The link on there homepage is not functioning.
I believe they use windex like each round for first 10 rnds
lite oil clean & final clean well with windex between each round.
Then the same every 2 rounds until 20 total rounds something like that - then good to go.

Re: Barrel Break in procedure

The new barrel I have is a new Remington take off barrel I purchased from Mike @ TAC OPS. After reading the sticky at the top I am just shooting till accuracy Starts falling off then just a normal cleaning. That prosess seems to be working good.
