I'm still pissed.

I went to bed my new action tonight. Badger M2008 in a KMW Sentinel stock.

I spent an hour doing the prep work. Taping everything off. Claying up the action, put thre coats of Kiwi neutral shoe wax on, buffed it out nice. Bolted up the pillars, laid down a very nice bed of Devcon, coated the pillars well and the recoil lugs......didn't want any air pockets or voids.

Had the barrel taped to the perfect level, then I sunk that action in place. I got a nice squish of Devcon coming out. Sank it down and cleaned up any excess.......looking good so far I thought.

Went upstairs for about an hour....came back down to start putting things away when I notice something. I'm looking at the rifle and I notice that the relief in the stock right under the bolt release doesn't line up with the bolt release, it's not long enough.

I realize the action is resting on the side bolt release.....it's not seated fully in the stock.

Shit. The relief in the stock wasn't milled out for enough so the stock is raised up in the back and it's cockeyed.

No choice but to pull it out. Sluuuuuuurp........it comes out a mess. I had to use a flat head to scrap out the now half hardened sludge of Devcon. The stock cleaned up well.

I can't get the Devon off the action without scraping it off and I don't want to scratch the action.

I'm just gonna have to trust my release agent. I'm assuming the leftover will just pop off the metal once it's dry and brittle.

What a freaking mess. And waste of time. If I hadn't pulled it, the action would have been resting on the bolt release and not fully and evenly seated.

I'm glad I caught it. Gonna have to extend the milling for the release. I just hope all at Devcon pops off the action when dried.

Re: Catastrophe averted.

If you have release agent on the action, it should just pop off once its dry.

Re: Catastrophe averted.

Should come off pretty easy, Ive used air to get some of the stubborn smaller pieces off. Ive had similar situations like that happen before. Shit happens & its a bummer after going thru all the prep and finding a problem after you've already sunk it in. Tomorrows a new day though

Yep, I lucked out. Woke up this morning, the bulk of the dried up Devcon came off by whacking the action with the plastic handle of a screw driver. An old credit card as a scraper took the rest off.
