I have a rifle with a kreiger barrel chambered in 300wsm. The rifle shoots fantastic but with the 28in heavy varmint barrel@ .930 at the muzzle the rifle weighs 16.6lbs before adding ammo.

I would like to drop a few pounds of the gun and am wondering how great a risk I would take in having a smith turn it down to like a Palma or light Palma contour?

Should I just take the barrel off and get a new barrel?

Re: Barrel recontouring or just sell.

You can have it recontoured for less then the cost of rebarreling it. But if its well used and time for a new one then go that way. If I had my Lathe I would do it for you. And if you want to sell it shoot me a price.
