I've been shooting rifle, .22, centerfire, BPCR. Air rifle in the back yard ridding the neighborhood of durty ol pigeons, for some time now.

Been pretty heavy into IHMSA the last 7-8 years. Travel some for State and Regional shoots. Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota.
All this time I've been lucky to have a "built in "spotter, my wife.
Since the "beginning" I have encouraged her to take up the sport Of IHMSA, Action pistol, ANYTHING!

Finally got her shooting at the Cowboy Action town that is adjacent to the silhouette range, Southern Hills Silhouette Club, at Pringle SD.

Boy could she burn a brick of ammo thru her Mark III dingin the steel!

The silhouette club, in order to generate some more revenue, started shooting 1/5th, 1/4, and 1/2 size, Oh and runts with .22 rifle, at the silhouette range, once a month.
I'm not sure the scale of them runts but they are frickin tiny @ 100 yards.

All shooting is done off of cross sticks, sitting, ala BPCR. Iron sights and optics. Opps, forgot, standing offhand open sights only also.

On to the thread title.
.22 match in February I talked the wife into shooting it. Dug out my trusty old Remington Targetmaster single shot with a 3-9 Sightron on it for her.
She didn't win the match, not sure that I remember her exact score but somewhere in the high 20's.
We shoot 40 round matchs. So pretty respectable first time out!

Well, her birthday was coming up and we were headed to Rapid City for a hockey game after the match.
We talked on the way about a birthday present for her. I had been leaning towards a 10-22 but the more I pondered about it the more I thought a bolt gun would be a better fit(easier on the ammo stockpile too).

We stop in at the local gun store in Rapid. They have 1 Savage TRR on the rack. The model I have been leaning towards from reading the threads here.

She says "It's black"!.

She likes white and purple. Hmmmmm, they make paint in those colors I tell her, we'll see what we can do.

SHE buys it on THAT condition.

It gets painted.

Well here's a woman's take on what a rifle oughta look like.

An I'm diggin it!!!

Thanks Joe!

We sure do!. We go that direction on our way to Alliance. BPCR shoots mainly. I wanna try my hand at service rifle this year if time allows.
We'll miss the May match there. Three gun, .22, centerfire and BPCR. Always a GOOD time!

Re: Belated Birthday present

Neil, BPCR has always interested me, however I went the traditional muzzle loading route about 35+ years ago and never looked back. Both are great fun. Probably know some of the same folks you know who take part in these black powder sports.

I go past the new Alliance range when heading to Cario, NE for the State ML Shoot in September. As I understand it, BPCR is not being shot at the old Hoffland Range anylonger in Alliance, but at the new location off Hwy 2. Is that correct? If so, are you guys shooting BPCR up hill down there at that new range, or do I have my locations mixed up? If you are shooting up hill that has to be a real challenge I would think.

Re: Belated Birthday present

Joe

We shoot BPCR at the Hoffland range. Well, that is the only range I have shot at in Nebraska with the exception of Holdredge IHMSA State matches.

Yeah, up hill range BPCR would be interesting to say the least. Although, the 900 yard bear and 1000 square are kinda up hill there....

Sure am gonna miss the May shoot

. Committed to a friends wedding!
Joe, if you have a lever .22 and a center fire lever gun you ought a shoot that match! I believe the 22 can be shot w optics and or irons. Center fire is irons only. Sitting, cross sticks, I forget the round count......

On to cleaning the Savage so the wife can start the break in!!!!
