I just got this in this week. I was doing some searching before I ordered it for reviews. Most everything I read was positive other than the early ones had a straight scope base.
This one comes with a 20MOA base (I believe) I did not go thru the paperwork yet to see if it listed. Some of the early reviews said they were switching to 20MOA.
1-9 twist 26in barrel. The muzzle brake looks like it will be effective. There is a clean recessed crown.
10.7 lbs empty
49.5 oal
trigger measures 37oz out of the box. It feels nice for a factory trigger. I will see how it goes before ordering a replacement. It is alot better feeling than the x mark pro that came on my remington.
The mag is an Accurate brand mag. It is an AICS pattern mag.
The bolt knob is a good size and comfortable to manipulate.
The stock is very comfortable and the palm swell is fairly sizeable which is great for me as I have large hands. It is finished with a nice matte texture. The buttplate is about a medium hardness and fitted nicely to match the stock. It comes with dual sling studs on the forearm. The stock is quite solid. I can grab the barrel and the forearm and flex the stock twards the barrel but only slightly and I have to squeeze quite hard. It feels quite rigid. Nothing like the squishy stocks on the 700's
The bottom metal has a nice fit and finish. The mag fits quite well with very little slop in the fit
Overall I am quite impressed with the rifle especially for the price. There are only 3 things I would change with this rifle and 2 of them are just being very nitpicky.
#1 the stock needs an adjustable comb. As I think every rifle does. I mocked up the scope on some mid height burris rings and I would need about 3/4in higher on the comb to have a good cheek weld. I will order some low rings and expect I will need about 1/2in added to the comb to get a good cheekweld right on my cheekbone where I like the stock to sit.
#2 the bolt slides fine but sounds a little rough as most factory actions do. I think I am just more sensitive to the feel and sound as I have been messing around with alot of custom actions lately and they are butter smooth. The fit of the bolt to the reciever is quite nice with very little play. Again I am being super nit picky in mentioning this.
#3 the rear tang of the action shows some faint tool marks from machining. This does not bother me at all but figured I would mention it.
Ultimately This rifle cost me $1310.00 out the door which is about the cost of a custom action alone. I have not shot it yet as I am going to wait on new rings and fitting the stock to me. I have owned a few savages/stevens and they have all shot quite well for factory rifles so I am hopefull this one will as well. I will post up some results after I get it out and sighted in.
If anyone is looking at one and has any specific questions feel free to ask. I did not get to see one in person before buying mine.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Congrats on the recent purchase and good luck with it. My brother has the BA and it is a blast to shoot. I havent done much with it as he doesn't shoot much. I dont have access to very long ranges so I cant justify having a 338. I think these are a great deal for someone wanting to get into long range without a lot of money.

BTW the brake works very well, it has less felt recoil than my 10fcp-k in 308.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Good to hear. I bought this for a new match starting up that is 800-2200yds. It is only 3 times this year so I did not want to spend a ton of money on a custom rig just yet.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Just picked mine up this am. just waiting for my seekins rings. Mine has the standard base not the 20moa. I am going to contact savage on monday and see if they will do anything about it.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Aloreman, if I remember correct one of the guys on here had called them and they took care of it.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

That is a nice rig for $1300. If I had the range, I'd buy one quick. I love my 10PC in .308.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Really nice, I plan to have one just like it in the next few months. Range report when you get a chance to fire it would be hugely helpful. Everything I have read said they are shooters with Lapua Ammo, but not so much with PPU, though if you are only after the brass, PPU is alot cheaper, if there is a such thing with the .338.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

I have rings on order now. I will post up a range report when they get in. I have 60rds of HSM 250gr ammo for the first trip out. I will be shooting 300gr loads after those

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Its not my thread but I thought I would post this for you guys. I have about 100 rounds through mine now. I have only changed a few things on mine. I had a full bed done to it and the muzzle break was a little off time but that is it. I shoot HSM 250 grain mostly. I shot this 3 round group on Wed night. I like to do 5 round groups but was the last three in the box.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Well I got a nightforce mounted up last night and took the rifle out today for sight in. I was shooting the HSM 250gr ammo. I sighted thru the bore and dialed in the scope to get me on paper. first shot about 10oclock about 8in left. I dial the scope over and shoot again and I was 2in right at 3oclock. Thats weird, redial and shoot again and hit center. I shoot a couple more shots and it only holds about 2.5moa??? I reach up to refocus to shoot out to 200yds. I can feel the scope knob moving. I wiggle it and see the whole scope moving slightly. WTF.
It is my own fault. the scope rail came premounted. I normally install my own as they generally dont come on the gun. I did go over the bolts with the torque wrench before mounting the rings but I did not remove them and locktight them as I figured it was done at the factory. As usual murphys law bit me in the ass.
I sat there last night thinking to myself I should pull these bolts and locktite them but, then I figured with my luck I would strip an allen head or something. So, I won the idiot award for today.
On the plus side the gun shoots nice. Thhe recoil is not too bad. The brake is not as effictive as the ar-30 brake but it is much smaller so that was expected. I will remove the action and adjust the trigger a little. The accutrigger has a pull weight that is not too bad but I could not anticipate when it was going to break. I have a schillen on my .260 and it has a definate feel to it and I know exactly when the pin is going to drop. I do not hate the accutrigger as far as factory triggers go but I will have to play with it a little to see if I will keep it or not.
I will remount and bed the rail and take it out again to shoot some groups. I will post targets after.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Very interesting, I didn't even know these existed. Looks like a nice entry level way into a super mag for LR. I'm like you and only get to shoot over 400yds a few times a year and have stayed away from a big boomer for a long time b/c I don't want it just sitting in the safe.. but now you have me thinking.

Once question that I can't tell from the pics, is this like all other savages and the barrel attached with a barrel nut for home replacement of barrels?

Thanks for the review.. look forward to follow-up reports.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Yes it has the barrel nut setup. I bedded and locktited the scope base last night. It is ready for round 2. Just an fyi the front two bolts are ground shorter than the rear 2. I wish i lived closer to the range. I am antsy to find out how it groups.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Have you found out the grouping???

I am looking at one and the wife (suprisingly) is not digging her heels in against it....lol

She also said the Nightforce scopes are on the agenda this summer...

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

I got out today with some handloads and all is well. The gun shot horrible with the HSM 250gr ammo. I loaded up some lapua brass with FGMM mag primers, 75.3gr H4831sc and toped with 300gr SMK seated to mag legenth. This shoots 2400fps on a 70deg day here in denver. The gun shot a 1/2moa 5 shot group at 100yds from a bench. I generally shoot a little better prone but it was not an option at the range I went to. I just needed to do some chrono'ing and the local range only allows bench shooting.
I thought for sure I was having a scope or gun issue based on the original groups. I am quite suprised how well the handloads shot. Also amazed how bad the HSM shot. It was throwing groups about 3moa at 100. Oh well, all is good now. I will do more extensive load work up in the near future. There is a 338 match this weekend so I am going to shoot it as is and see what happens.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

I forgot to post results after the second outing after bedding and locktighting the scope base in place. The gun shot terrible. I was using the 250gr HSM ammo. The gun was grouping around 3 moa. I thought maybe it was me so I had a friend shoot it and his groups were just as bad. His group was 2in left, bulseye,2in high and slightly right of center, bulseye, another 2in high and slightly right. We checked for loose fasteners and stock bolts. Everything was fine. My groups were similar in that it looked like something was shifting as there were a few bullets that appeared to group together in random places.
The post above this one gives the results for the handloads and my 3rd outing. The gun shot great with handloads. The whole issue was just the ammo.

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

you got that at a good price....is that truly a fixed muzzle brake? says fixed on the Savage website but it looks like it screws on as any other muzzle brake does

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

Is that close to max load with the 4831sc?

I have had Savages with the accutrigger and they were pretty good. I built my last .308 off of a Stevens and was able to tune the Rifle Basix SAV-1 to break surprisingly crisply. You can give the Rifle Basix a try for less than $100, I like mine more than the Accutrigger. YMMV

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

For the dollar invested the Savage is a viable candidate for anyone wanting a LR precision rifle.. Granted some of them do have some issues but savage seems like they are on the ball in taking care of them..

Re: savage 110 FCP HS in 338 lapua

I have this same rifle and I have had nothing but problems with the Accutrigger. I turned it to its lightest setting and then gave it a full turn back the other way. I was told to do this, as I was haveing issues with the trigger and action locking up. I am still having issues with this same thing, except now it happens when I work the bolt very fast to load a round. If I go very slow, it does not happen. I hate this trigger and am moving to a Rifle Basics trigger.
