The W1000 uncooled thermal weapon sight enhances mission performance by helping to spot personnel and equipment at greater ranges, adding a critical margin to survivability and lethality. The W1000 gives the warfighter the ability to shoot equally well both day and night, and is combat proven by U.S. and allied armed forces. The W1000 uses long-wave uncooled infrared technology to sense differences in heat emitted by objects in its field of view. It separates people and other objects from cluttered backgrounds and foliage, in either full daylight or the darkest night – even when there is absolutely no light.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Had an opportunity to view the X-50, X-200, and the above W1000-9. Just my observations.

First I ran into Huntler and some of the men from Identmarking at the Dallas gun show this past weekend, and had a chance to view the above thermal devices at the show. Got invited out to Identmarkings location in Rockwall Tx to look at the devices further at night.

Very nice devices and each were exactly as explained at the show. The w-1000P was by far the most impressive. At approximately 450 meters you could identify a man making a cell call, and again moving his arms and walking around. The woodline and surrounding areas were all identifiable also. The crosshair reticle was clear and crisp. Weather conditions were clear and lighting was OK. No illumination was used. Very nice and certainly a good devise.

The X-50 is a good devise. At 450 meters I could identify a man type figure and observe movement. Would not be able to ID someone but would know of movement. At 150 yards I could observe movement and know it was a man size target. Did all I expected it to which is make me aware of movement so I could use my NV in that direction. The X-200 definitely provided better target resolution. but along with that would come a higher ticket price. For my purposes at this time the X-50 is the best deal, and meets all of my expectations. If I were in CONUS more and doing more night hunting I would go with the X-200 just because of target clarity.

I appreciate the opportunity to meet the ident marking guys and get up with the Mod armory folks for the demo.

MX762,

Very sweet set-up... Let us know how the hunt goes.

I know I shouldn't say this, but I sure wish I had hogs on my land. I feel like the only land owner in TX that can't find any stinking hogs.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

It was pushed back to sunday but I got lawman-lite DVR today so I'll have video of the hunt!!

Nice shot!

We went out Friday night with the guys from Crack Predator calls. Didn't have any success though.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

if it picks up 1/2 of what I see it should be great, looking forward to it.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

so far Im pretty pleased with the scope, hunted a week with it in and out of trucks and off & On 4wheelers and each time I check the zero its within 3 clicks!

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

This is an intersting unit. The ocular eyepiece sucks as it has one pincushion effect around the edges.

Other than that, this is a pretty impressive unit.

It's big, but it is robust.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

pretty is as pretty does! 50lb coyote taken at 75 yards, then again several times out to 150 yards, Sit Boo Boo Sit! Video to follow

If you mount it on your rifle and have proper eye allingment you won't have this effect. Like all TWS units, eye allingment is key.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Hunter is correct. I have used this unit the past 2 weekends hunting pigs. My favorite thing about this sight is how fast you can get on the next piggy. Also it's not nearly as heavy as it looks. Just under 4 lbs which means no one has to carry my rifle for me. LOL..

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

WHat reticle pattern did you use? M249? I think Mil-Dot M24 pattern is better for hunting.

Thanks for the tip. I have looked at theImpactzone's WS1000 and no matter where I place my eye the pincushion effect is there.

It was less if I removed the eyecup and pressed my eye against the frame of the occular unit.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

I use the M16-A2 the BDC is close enough out to 300yards with the 77gr Blkhills

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Dude that is an Awesome shot ! ! !

Right after the coyote goes down there is a puff of heat out and to the right. It is very brief, almost makes me wonder if you caught a spray of blood through the imager?

Anyway good shot and this Weapons sight makes knocking down the predators easy pezzy,

Here are some size comparison shots. I will post more thoughts and comparisons soon, just really busy with the kids this week. NO comparison in ease of use between these units!

Actually this is not true. What you're seeing is merely a misplacement of the eye in relationship to the focal point of the ocular lens. With this unit and it's large ocular (which is designed to provide maximum clarity at low light levels), eye placement is critical.

You need to get right up on the eyepiece (it's best to use the included rubber eyecup to cushion the eyepiece when using it on a rifle). When you get your eye to the proper position, you will see an undistorted flat image of the tube display.

I watched a large bear wander up the valley at the Whittington Center for about 45 minutes at a lased range of 650 meters a couple of weeks ago with my unit. Clear as a bell and I could have shot it easily.

It's easy to identify a human at 1000 yards as well, which I did at the Kifaru Rendevous last week. Probably could have made the shot with my .338 Lapua as well.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

sorry but I don't think you will put your eye up to the eye pices more than once with a 338lp, I only shoot mine under a 223 for that reason! I have to get so close I don't even want to put it on my 243, its a great scope and I use it often, but not on any mag clibers

Unfortunately, you are simply incorrect on both the eye position & shooting it on a large caliber rifle.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Sean,

I think what Attnews is trying to say is that you might have spend a few more minutes adjusting the diopter and getting you eye in the correct position. The W1000 has a narrow eye relief not unlike an ACOG. The display can appear to be pin cushioned if you don't set your eye relief correctly (Just exactly like the AN/PAS-13B.) Having used a W1000 many times I know what you are describing but its not an issue when set up correctly and the user has a few minutes behind it getting used to the weapon sight.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

I don't find it a issue as there is no pin cushion effet near the cross hairs, and yes off a bench you can set up on it jsut right but in the field it's different and you see it more if you look for it but on game or in the field I'm never looking at the edge, I now use the M24 and perfer black hot over white hot
coyote-w1000001.jpg

got this one after about 10 minutes of rabbit distress with a few yips and barks, then went to coyote pup distress, and 10 minutes later she ran in from down wind, took her at 157 yards the call being 12:00 cross wind,at 75 yards in a old rice field stubbel, she came in hard from 1:00 then started to bug out at 2:00 as soon as she was down wind of the call I put a 60gr v-max 223 Freedom muntions reman. from behind in the first rib, no exit very little pelt damage. DRT!

She is now Gattor food as I have little 3 footer living in my pond now, waiting for it to get around 12' so I can get some boots.

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Nice yote! We have used NV gear for over 15 years but just started hunting with Thermal gear this last fall it made a great combo with our I2 gear. Now that summer is here everything is green, leafy, and tall the thermal monos and thermal scope just work way better for finding and placeing shots on target vs our I2 gear.Last night there were two small hogs coming through a hay field we spotted them with my PS32 I went to my D-740 pinnacle and buddy grabbed his Renegade 320 thermal scope I couldn't even see the targets to shot grass was too tall he had them in his cross arrows instantly and keep saying shoot on three count I never could pick them out so he dropped both before they were back into the timber. Its been like all month he's kicking my butt with his thermal scope right now this fall it wasn't such a difference thermal vs I2 scopes but I wasn't having to deal with all the extra grass, brush, and so on.

took this one across the street last night at about 11:pm had just seen the land owner the day befor and asked permission to shoot coyotes, he said sure as he had new calfs and some baby pigs in a pen used the same calls as the one the night before but had to call a little longer using pup in distress, 40 minutes on the stand, steped the shot off at 105 yards she came in down wind out of the tall brush into a cut pasture, and was lit up in the thermal, I was on white hot and switch to black hot for the shot, DRT

wish they would come out with the battery pack 6 9v is a lot of gas LOL

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

Sorry guys no Video, I lent my Lawmate to a friend to try out. going back out tonight and hope to get it back before we go as we are going to hit them hard

Re: Thermal Weapon Sight Raytheon W1000-9

I sure could use a rechargable one or two maybe, found this hog rootting up a pasture, put the stalk on her and hit her at about 150 yards with a 60gr V-max, she almost made it to the tree line but I kept the lead in the air, she went down and when I got to her she got up and charged so I had to open her up with about a 5 rnd burst, wish I had the camera it was pretty exciting for a moment there

HOLY CRAP ! ! !

That would have been something to capture on video! On the rechargeable battery we have one, what we are working on is the charger for it.

The System is being well received. This is the best bang for the buck, as it were, in a Thermal Weapons sight on the Market today. As the videos show, the unit is HIGHLY effective ! ! !
