CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

Please share your thoughts between these two guns for a precision trainer.

The CZ 455 PT's are nice. The Sako Quad's are very nice also.

The areas of concern with the Sako Quad are:

1) mag availability
2) mag reliability
3) spare parts
4) extra cost

I am much more familiar with the CZ's and have several models of them back to a BRNO 4 1957 trainer.

The Quad is appealing to me for the following reasons:

1) Ability to use a McMillan A5
2) Ability to easily change bolt knob
3) Shorter bolt rotation to clear scope

I understand the triggers can both be excellent, the accuracy with a Lilja barrel can be very close to each other.

I appreciate your input.

Thanks,
Darin

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

I would go the CZ route myself. I have a 455 already and LOVE it. The sako has nothing on the CZ as far as I am concerned. The CZ has good old quality and craftsmanship. The sako has plastic and is meant to look cool.

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

I have a CZ 452 and a Quad. I prefer the Quad. Its trigger is better out of the box, it is easy to throw a larger bolt on, and the short throw bolt is very nice. It is nice to be able to easily swap out barrels if you want. The factory barrel shot great too.

I was able to track down a prototype tensioned barrel for my quad and I really like it. Had I not found the tensioned barrel I would have gone with the Lilja and had it threaded.

The quad magazines can be found if you look hard enough. The 5 round mags work great. The 10 round mags will work well with 7 rounds and from what I hear they can be made to function well with 10 rounds by trimming the mag spring (which I have not tried yet on my mags). The quad mags are also more expensive than the CZ mags.

I bought my Quad back when they could be had for $450. With the current price of the Quads, I might be more inclined to go with the CZ.

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

I love the Sako Quad.

I got a drop in barrel from Lilja, a U.S optics base, and a Manners T4 stock.

I plug in a BC of 0.134 for Eley 40gr and It does extremely well at distance.

Best Regards

I don't think you will go wrong either way. I do love CZ's...never handled a quad, but have heard lots of good.

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

Everyone,

I great appreciate your input! They both seem to be top notch with generous aftermarket support.

Any other thoughts are most welcome!

Thanks,
Darin

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

I don't own a CZ but might some day since i've heard such great things about them.

I've posted my Quad here before but she just got done with her make over last week.

Re-duracoated everything
USO base instead of the cheesy RT base
Hydro dipped the stock

When i shoot my Surgeons off hand, i use the 10rd AI mag for support. I use my Quad mainly for positional/ barricade practice so i wanted it to be as realistic to its bigger brothers as possible. Even when shooting off barricades i'll drive the rifle forward into the mag.. with the sako there was nothing there to stop it except the trigger guard which is a different balance point then im used to.

Here's what i did to the mag-

The quad is a great rifle but its hard to find one. CZ is readily avaialable. The limited run quad thats suppose to be out this summer is expensive, compare to the CZ. That is my 2 cent.

Re: CZ 455 PT or Sako Quad?

I wonder if lilja will make drop in barrels for the new cz455 like the do for the quad. That paired with a timney trigger and you come out a good bit ahead of the quad price wise.

They already have them.

On their website they only show Quad, Finnfire, 10/22, 77/22, Anschultz 2007/2013, and Remington 504. If they are making 455 barrels (outside of custom orders) I might be making an order....

They are already available, in a medium varmint taper, and a straight taper:
