so just run the 284 brass into a 6.5x284 sizing die? Probably more to it than that. My web search skills must suck cause i couldn't come up with anything conclusive.
thanks

That's how it's done, though you'll probably have to neck turn.

I question why you don't just buy 6.5-284 brass outright?

The 6.5-284 and 284 phenomenon is strange, huh? The parent case was never popular but its offspring took off - to the extent you can barely even get straight 284 brass, and we're necking up "wildcat" brass to get back to the parent case... strange

Re: necking down .284 to 6.5x284

I think the 6.5x284 has lost a lot of its popularity. I see more people doing new builds in the original 284 now that they have good high bc 7mm offerings available.

Well that, and then there's the hassle of not even making it through a year of shooting and having to rebarrel.

Re: necking down .284 to 6.5x284

I got a good deal on a shillen bbl in 6.5 and a bunch of 284 win brass. so was thinking 6.5x284

Re: necking down .284 to 6.5x284

depends on the OD of a .284 round , if you have to size down more then .010 i might get some bushings and size it down in finer increments. If your trying to size down to much at once you'll cause the cause necks to sink into the shoulders.

Fwiw you'll save a lot of hassle and get more reloads buying a box of lapua 6.5x284 brass. You can use all that winchester 284 brass in about 1100 rounds when the 6.5 shoots out and you rebarrel it

Re: necking down .284 to 6.5x284

You could probably sell the 284 brass pretty easily then buy 6.5-.284 brass. I really hope Lapua or Norma starts making straight .284 brass. I just processed some Win brass for my upcoming 284 and it sucks big fucking moose cock. Worst brass I have ever worked with.

Ive had terrible luck with win brass as well...junk...thew out ten pieces out of a 50ct. bag of 300 wsm.
