Ok.. I would like to start by saying I'm not looking for an opinion on the ONE scope any of you have tried. I'm looking for an opinion on one of the listed scopes vs. any of the others listed. I found out that posting on forums, sometimes you get some bias toward one scope because the owner has that one, and not any of the others.

I'm considering 4 scopes, just not sure which.

Scope A) Wonders Optics (WOTAC) 4.5-14 x 44FFP.
Scope B) Darkops Countersniper 4-16 x 50 Contract Overrun
Scope C) Vortex Viper HS 4-16 x 44
Scope D) Nikon Monarch 4-16 x 42 side focus

Mostly concerned with which scopes allow the best light, which are best during low-light, most durable, best focus at higher powered zoom, etc... Essentially, I want the most bang for my buck; and it is hard to compare all these together, as they don't have most of these at the local Bass Pro. Would really value the opinions of anyone who has used a combination of these scopes and can help distinguish the pros/cons between them.

I'm sure it will be asked, so I will address beforehand.. The scope will be used on a Superior Barrels AR-15 upper, 223 Wylde, 1:7 Douglass fluted barrel. Looking to shoot everything from 100 yds - 600 yds, possibly longer.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Out of all of those, I would choose the Vortex. CS, dont even mention. WOTAC isn't that awful great, and the vortex will beat all of those scopes hands down.

I don't use the Vortex Mentioned, but from what I read, they are awesome for the money.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Vortex would be your best option. CS alone seals the deal. Don't have the one mentioned but have 3 of their other products.
Nikon is a good hunting scope but suffers when dialing IMO.
DARK OPS = run away very fast
Wotacs I have played with didn't impress.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

A) never tried, but from what I read they've had some challenges with durability
B) scam
C) I love my vortex- clarity, adjustments, feel
D) replaced my Nikon with a vortex... I like the vortex better (after I hit 100 posts the Nikon will be for sale)

Re: Considering 4 scopes

+1 for the Vortex HS (and yes I have one and love it). The only other one on your list worth considering is the Nikon.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

From the scopes you listed the only one I would recommend is the Vortex. You need to do some more research, or actually take advice on other scopes instead of making it specifically about these four. There are much better options out there like the SWFA Super Sniper line of scopes for instance.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Remau,
I completely agree, just didn't want to make too broad of a topic. Let me rephrase my initial post to say "what is the best $350 - $500 range scope for my dollar?"

Re: Considering 4 scopes

You might want to find out on Scope B what is the contract over run and who contracted it? Basically, they are lying through their teeth. No one in the U.S. military logistics systems has ever ordered that sorry scope. Strike from the list.

I tried asking those questions on their Facebook page. After having my post deleted three times they blocked me....I also emailed them, and they did respond, but said they couldn't give me information regarding dark ops holdings military contracts....asshats.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Based on what you all are saying, item B is off the list. Too many negative opinions for me to consider blowing money on it. I guess now I'd love to get an opinion on what is the best $350 - $500 scope out there for 100 - 600 yd target shooting?

Re: Considering 4 scopes

How about this, I have a nice Falcon Menace 4.5x18x56 Mil reticle, mil knobs, second focal plane. Comes with the box, sunshade, and papers. $300 shipped to your door. It's been on my AR for the past year, and was on my .223 savage before that. Good scope, just looking for another NF.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

I've got vortex, nikon and weaver GS. All 3 are nice optics. Of the 3 I think the vortex wins on a bolt gun. I wouldn't rule out the nikon just because you can find some smokin deals on them and they are still good optics, the glass in the buckmasters series and above is very nice but as mentioned above, internal adjustment is a bit on the slim side when you want to really get wayyy out there. The weaver I have is a damn fine scope as well ( 'nuff said) but I still would go with any of the above at the right price in the range and application you are considering.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Never owned, but based on reviews and forum posts alone, I'd scratch A and B off the list! Replace one of them with the weaver scope mentioned above. I've used NIKON before and I agree they are solid as a hunting scope. I've not used one for dialing type situations so no advise there. Vortex is above all these in my opinion. CS is awesome and for the money the optics are as well! I haven't used the one you mentioned, but have used the viper and the viper pst. I thought I upgraded my viper with a MK4 leupy, but in my opinion it was minimal, if at all in glass quality and nearly 3 times the cost, so I took a beating on it and bought a PST! I really think you could narrow your options to the weaver and vortex, but you could throw in the new bushnell 3-12ga elite ffp into the mix for alittle more money.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

A) I once considered Wotac but after searching the boards here I saw there were way too many complaints about Wotac's customer service. Heck, there were complaints about simply trying to buy a scope from them.

B) WAVE OFF WAVE OFF!!! I wouldn't buy one of these for $10 even if I needed a $10 paperweight.

C) This is what I'd pick. Vortex makes good scopes, they have excellent customer service, an unbeatable warranty, and great pricing for the features. I think this is the Midway exclusive which is on sale till the end of the month for $400. I'd jump on it.

D) I know nothing about this one.

^ This. Best value out there for $400, pretty decent glass, nice size/weight and top it off with an awesome warranty.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

yes i wish counter sniper was the preferred scope of our enemy it is for sure a P.O.S

Re: Considering 4 scopes

Between the Vortex and the Nikon buy the one whose features you prefer. I have never had the two exactly side by side but I have tested products from the same line of each maker in the past and I expect, based on that experience, for the glass clarity to be very close. Both products also have a reputation for reliability and have good companies behind them. Both also performed well mechanically in my testing.

As for the WOTAC, I have no experience but have not heard good things. The Countersniper has been well discussed on this board and if you want a good laugh do a quick search for those posts. If you do buy one, do not bother posting about it, we have heard quite enough from the likes of those folks.

Re: Considering 4 scopes

I agree about the Vortex warranty as being good but in my experience I had to use it a few too many times.

I dont know if you are open to other scopes but the Bushnell 6500 (tacticals) are also very good optically and they have some in the 2.5-16x42 range and a few others that I really liked when I got to handle them.
