Just wondering which way people carry their rifles in these packs. In my Lodrag I go muzzle up and pull it out via the legs of my Atlas. Works well and seems less top heavy.

a) don't damage the crown should you stumble (basic behaviour is to protect the head; with the crown/muzzle up, you'll instinctively protect the barrel)
b) can put down the backpack, at most resting it on the stock.

These polls are lame...that being said...the Eberlestocks were designed to put the rifle muzzle down. You can do either, so it all boils down to personal preference.
I have a brake on my 338LM, so the poster above comment about damaging the crown isn't an issue.

i guess it depends on what you are more willing to damage: crown/barrel/brake, or stock.

I guess I've always just gone muzzle down because the rifle portion of the pack tapers at the bottom.
I always run with a can or FH so I've never been worried about ruining the crown. I also always pull my pack off and then sideways so the muzzle end never touches the ground.
I would think it would be more of a pain to go stock first, since once I get to the scope things (mostly turrets) start catching on the sides of the scabbard portion. I'll have to try it some time. Anyone noticed a difference?

Seems to me that muzzle down places the majority of the weight further up one's back, which would be highly desirable from a comfort perspective. I'm not concerned about the crown on my rifle - it's already recessed, and the pack itself is going to protect it from falls or scrapes of any height that I'd be able to survive myself.

It would be foolish to carry it in the pack with a round in the chamber whether the muzzle was up or down.
They are design to carry it muzzle down. That way you can remove it with the pack still on your back. There are too many things to hang up on the pack if you carry it muzzle down.

If you fell hard enough to damage the crown on the barrel, I am sure that your rifle would be your first concern.
I have taken some spills in the woods and have been pretty tore up and not even knocked my scope off of zero.

I just got my GS2, planning to test out both methods but likely will do muzzle down. Will have a brake on it when I use it for real so I'm not so worried about the crown.

I don't have any problem pulling it out of my back while it's on my back, muzzle up, and I that way I also don't sweep anyone behind me.
Totally agree with you about not carrying it with a round in the chamber!

You can carry it muzzle up but in my j107, it didn't seem to work that well. With a full pack, it always got caught in something. I did have a 50mm scope with turrets and a bipod on my rifle though.

Muzzle down, the padding on the bottom is more than sufficient, with a recessed crown and for u OCD people u can use a eagle scope crown cover you'll be good to go.

Muzzle down for me especially any real life senarios through brush like hunting.. I'm always dragging through trees and brush and don't need the muzzle brake full of debree when I'm ready to shoot..

Muzzle down! Only way my aics folder fits in even with the top of my g4 operator.

I've been carrying mine muzzle down. I tried with the muzzle up and the pack was extremely top heavy and was uncomfortable to wear.

I carry mine muzzle up for the exact same reason lol. Guess it comes down to personal preference.

I go muzzle down.
1. It is easier for me to remove and shoulder.
2. Less worries of debris in the barrel.
3. Seems to distribute weight better.
I've seen and tried muzzle up, just not for me.

go muzzle down as the pack is designed. You can leave the pack on your shoulders and reach behind your head to retrieve the rifle.
