Difference is:
Finish- 700P is a parkinized finished (durable), SPS is some sort of bluing (less durable)
Stock- 700P has H-S Precision stock (solid), SPS has houge over-mold (flimsy)
Otherwise they are basically the same. But, the stock on the SPS is really junk. If I were you, UNLESS you are planning on cerakoting and buying different stocks, look at the 700P LTR and the 700 5R Milspec 20". These rifles are VERY similar as they both have H-S stocks, 20" barrels in the same contour. Difference is the 5R is stainless with a non-fluted barrel, threaded muzzle with cap... and of course the 5R rifling. LTR is fluted with a non-threaded muzzle, conventional rifling.
Price as new shouldn't be too different between the two. I paid $1019 for my two 20" 5R's... my used LTR I paid $750 for and sold it for the same; they run about $950- $1050 new.
