Rifle Scopes M1A Scope Mount

I just purchased my 5th M1A. However, the last one I owned was in 2002. I looked high and low for a stable scope mount, but was never totally satisfied with the systems available at the time. I am hoping that in a decade someone has invented a better mousetrap.

What is considered the best scope mount for the M1A/M14?

My thoughts: (see active links in above threads)

Here's my recommendation in order of preference:

1. Smith Enterprise: M14 Scope Mount, Wire EDM, NSN 5855-01-506-5750

1A. Sadlak: Sadlak Brookfeild-type M14 Mount particularly good if your receiver is out of spec they will custom-fit the mount for you.

2. Basset Machine: Basset M14 Mount

3. ARMS: its not "bad" but the fit-and-finish on the three above are definitely better.

Avoid the Springfield Armory mount, it won't hold zero.

+1 for Bassett Machine. I have one on a loaded and another on a scout. Not a bad price for a solid mount.

I use an ARMS #18 and am very happy with it (newer version, no the older "split" model). However the SEI, Sadlak, Bassett, and CASM (www.m14.ca) are all great mounts.

If you want to replace your handguard as well, the VLTOR CAS-V system is very nice and doesn't have the huge cheek height increase that the troy system has. The only drawback is that it's expensive.

I use ARMS #18 and ARMS #22... nothing blue loc-tite can't fix, lol!

Haven't had any problems since I added loc-tite... and that was well over 600 rounds ago.

I'm running the Basset on my M21 and loving it. Going on two years of bouncing around from a Pelican case to the trunk to the dirt road to the range with no change in zero.

Sadlak titanium mount. I have that mount on both my M1As and could not be happier. Plus you get a bonus of doing business with a company that has excellent customer service.

Another vote for the CASM mount here. Zero issues out of mine in over a year. It's a very solid mount.

If you've owned so many, you might as well try a LRB M25 receiver for your next one. Scope mount will never be an issue.

^^ IMHO this is the best(lightest as well), Sadlak Airborne is next for a standard stocked rifle.

If your going with a Chassis system, the Sage Detachable Cantilevered sight base is the way to go.

I like the bassett machine mount. My first one recently had the vertical alignment rod detach because the adhesive failed. This caused the mount to loosen after about 20 rounds and deformed a small area where the rod was. Bassett machine replaced it no questions asked. I think this is an isolated incident since I have heard nothing else but good things. I'm expecting my replacement mount to be rock solid. I think you get more quality for less money.

i have heard the sage cantilevered doesn't hold zero. l had the Arms 18 and got rid of it and went with a LaRue LT608 i have a EBR set up i like it because i can use it for my scope and take it off and mount a Eotech or Aimpoint without it and go either one i want.

is brookfield still around? theirs works great for me, but it's been a while since i purchased that.
