What do you all do with the dead Yots. Bury them? My will kill me if I bring them home.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

The hides are worth a little money, if the fur is good.

Something will eat the carcass.....eventually.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

eat 'em

what else?

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

If the hides are good, and hide prices are decent I'll skin them. Other critters and birds will take care of the carcasses. Some people hang the carcasses on a fence? NOT a good idea, as it gives the a bad impression of varmit hunters to the general public, and gives peta types another excuse to try and stop hunting.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

When you skin it do you cut the hide at the base of the head and feet? Or the whole thing like a mount? I am assuming that you rip it at the chest just as in gutting?

This. Definitely want to leave the head. I always cut the feet off at the joint right at the foot. Some of the winter hides are incredible. Mange yotes get left where they fall. You don't have to get all fancy when you cape out the face unless you are going to get it mounted. The tannery will get rid of the tear ducts anyways. Should be able to skin one in 5 minutes or less. They are a lot easier if you do them when they are warm.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

I skin them out, ussally right after I shoot them when I get back to the truck. They are still warm and I can get one skinned out in about 5 minutes. I sold 2 green and 1 whole this passed winter for $90. So they are worth the time here in Wyoming. If I were in a warmer area I would probably knock the tail off and leave the rest. I have friends that tie flies so they could use the hairs.

The meat makes good sausage though.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

We skin and flesh them and put 'em on a stretcher. Of course we don't kill the volume some of you guys do so it's a good father/son project working the pelts.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Yeah.....the Humane Society and Wild Earth Guardians, and same such tree hugging rainbow worshiping organizations....simply AWESOME sources of the unabridged truth.

Fuck them, and their damn precious coyotes............

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

All those peta types have never seen what coyotes can do to a new born calf or fawn. Keep on hunting, skin em or don't, but keep on hunting!!

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Regs basically tell us to dispose of them in the "out of sight, out of mind" fashion, keep them out of view of the general public and you're good.

You're in CA, plenty of illegals that need a good meal, no?

I'm getting into total fur care/prep this year, should be interesting.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Revive them and then re-shoot them, but alway keep in mind this only work if you don't head shoot them.

;^)

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Foxes and Coyotes go on my wall, but small stuff like groundhogs and opossum are thrown in the woods for the bigger varmints to eat.

Please keep this on the Down Low... old family recipe from the turn of the 21st Century.

COYOTE STEW

1 doz. coyotes, lg. & wily in nature
25 gal. Acme instant coyote broth
50 lb. carrots, diced
50 lb. potatoes, diced
Salt & pepper to taste

Simmer coyote in broth until tender. This takes about 1 week. Season to taste. Add vegetables in last hour of cooking. Serves 250 people. If unexpected guests arrive. 1 rabbit may be added, but do this only in an emergency, as most people do not like to find a hare in their stew.

I do not. I did the wildlife scenes but not the mounts. I just got me some chicken wire and paper mache and went to town. I didn't really have a plan on what I wanted it to look like. I just let it fall together as it went. I have a bobcat getting mounted I'm going to try a mountain/rock scene

AWESOME!

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Them are some awsome mounts. I would like to get one but I dont know how the dog will like it.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Somehow had missed the new Utah bounty. Guess its time to get back to it. Although the PETA idea is very tempting. Maybe a one for me one for them deal would be good.

10-4, they stay as they lay.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

The circle of life, I leave them, and I go back in a week and they are gone, I have rarely gone back and seen even a trace, mine are always eaten by other yotes or buzzards.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Skin, scrape, stretch then send them to the north american fur trade. You might ten a hide one year and 60 the next. Last year was a good year.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

I use them as bait for other coyotes.

Spill the entrails out on the ground and start making some injured or pup calls and it works like a charm.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

Drop them off at a roadrunner brothel and let them have their way with the flea-bitten scum of the earth.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

The canine teeth are actually sought by persons south of the border. They will buy the canines, though you may have to monitor the peso exchange rate.

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

I leave them right where they lay for the first hour. If it was a female, a lot of times the male will circle back for her. Then he gets dumped too.

After that, I drag them off somewhere out of site and let them rot. I never seen nothing eat a dead stinking coyote. Their stomach acid doesn't take too long to really make em stink. Even when I hunt them with large caliber TSX bullets which just tears them open on the exit side, nothing will eat them. At least that's my experience in the North East.

Just curoius, what on earth would anyone want with canine teeth?

I have no clue. Maybe they show them off as chupacabra trophies!!

Re: what to do with the dead yots?

String them up on a fence and watch them shed.
