I tried to take shots of the thermal images, but it's actually a PITA. -grin-

I couldn't hold that X200xp still long enough to snap the shots!

Love the foot picture where you can see the carpet, and then the heat left from where my foot was.

Things a blast... and really useful for hunting.

Oh yeah, and I'm wearing insulated sock in the picture of my foot... and it still sees through the 3 layers of the sock!

Re: L-3 Thermal Eye X200xp Pictures

That is certainly a useful tool.

Yes it is... you can see any animal/person to about 400 meters without issue. (More for large beasts... -smile-)

I had originally gotten the X50 unit, but the sensitivity wasn't all that great. THIS unit is cool because you see all of the fine detail, plus white hot.

    Wasn't cheap... somewhere around $4k.

I'm looking at another unit, which is rather pricey... but it combines a few functions that REALLY would be neat.

...but if you think this was pricey...

What's nice is that it's small... and you can't miss a person or animal if you try with it.

I think I'd see a specialist about that crooked big toe

Kinda looks like a thumb, can you pick things up with your feet? Kinda like Monkey toes of sorts?

I'm looking into getting the X50.Besides the sensitivity issue you had,how well did it perform on bigger sized game ? I've seen videos and the images and performance out to 150yds didn't look bad.I'm going to use it for spotting game,so I don't have to keep scanning with my weapon mounted thermal scope.

Re: L-3 Thermal Eye X200xp Pictures

Well, the primary difference is that the X50 doesn't have the detail. It also doesn't see quite as far out... by about 100 meters.

Now, can you see a blob of heat that's either an animal or human, yeah, absolutely. However, the X200xp is about 3 times a sensitive, so you see detail that clearly tells you what you are looking at.

If you take a look at the blurry picture I took through an open window of the trees and side walk, even that picture had pretty good detail. The X50 wouldn't have worked out as well...

Now, to take those pictures, I hooked the X200xp to a 24 inch monitor, put my camera on a tripod, and pointed the X200xp out the window. So that's a pretty good picture all things considering...

The reality is that the X50 will look more like that picture with some of the fine detail missing, and the X200 looks crisp and very clean.

Both are good units, but the X200 just provides that extra level of robust detail that make indentifing objects easier.

Pretty sure you'd go to jail for using that in my state for hunting (no electronics).

    $4K !

Re: L-3 Thermal Eye X200xp Pictures

Yep... not cheap. However, Night Vision is only good at night... this is ALWAYS useful.

Plus, it comes in handy with things like energy surveys of your house, locating highly used circiut breakers, seeing hot spots in the walls, etc.

    Technology is handy.

Also, I'd make a case of using it for hunter safety... wouldn't you like to make sure you aren't shooting in a direction where there is a person somewhere behind your target? -smile-

Unless you have a foot picture to prove it, it looks like I win.

Thanks for the response. If I had the extra $$$,a 200xp would be in my future.Right now I want a unit for observation.A blurry thermal is better than no thermal.I'll work the fine details out with the thermal scope.

Re: L-3 Thermal Eye X200xp Pictures

I think the best comparison I've been able to come up with is the difference in visual quality between the Gen III autogated tube and a Gen II tube.

It's similar to that. Of course, with thermal you can see everything.
