North Springs .22LR Challenge - Qualifier Match
Location: The world class North Springs Range
Date: May 5th 2012
Time: Match starts at 9:00 am

Round count - less than 100 rounds
Distances- 25-100 yards for the 1st match. Advanced shooters will go out much further in future matches. Possibly out to 350 yards.

Plan on arriving NO LATER THAN 8:30 to pay the range fee at the gate house and get to the 100 yards range for the safety meeting.
Those who show up after the safety meeting will not be allowed to compete. NO exceptions. Sorry.

Cost: $5 range fee (paid at the gate house), $3 competition fee (paid at sign in.

All ages are welcome to come and compete. Strict safety rules will be Enforced so ALL shooters are required to know basic firearm safety.
Whether you’re an advanced shooter or just want to have some fun shooting .22’s this is the place to do it.
This 1st “Qualifier” match will separate the men from the boys and following matches will be divided into two groups of Basic and Advanced. The Advanced group (10-12 shooters max) will have to earn their spot each month to stay in the Advanced group. Shooters in the Basic group will be able to earn a spot in the Advanced group. If your just there to have fun and aren’t interested in the advanced shooting that’s fine also.

This 1st match will be mostly, if not all, paper targets just to be sure we have time. That could change depenting on how many people show up.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

Plan on bringing 100 rounds. Right now the round count is 56 rounds for 8 stages. That may change due to turnout and how quickly things move along.
If you have a pistol you might bring it along to if you want. If theres time after the shoot I may want to test out a few things for future matches.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

Right on.

What do you have in mind for the stages?

and

Is there any time prior to the first stage for a quick zero check?

Right now I have 8 stages planned with a bunch more we could do if we have time. They will be from 25 yards to 100 yards. Mostly paper for everyone this 1st match since we have no idea whay kind of turn out well have from the locals down there.

We will just see how many show up and shoot for 1.5 to 2 hours and run through as many stages as we can in that time frame. If we cant get through all 8 thats fine. If we can do more than eight thats fine too. And we may do a bit of shooting after the match to try a few things for future matches. Including .22 pistols.

You are best servered with a rifle that is accurate at 25 yards and a scope good enough to shoot at least 100 yards, possibly out to 350 for the advanced group in future matches.

Its best if your scope can focus down to 25 yards or less.

I doubt there will be time to do any shooting before the match. I need to post a lot of targets before the match and we dont want anyone shooting our targets after they are up.
The 1st shot will be a "cold bore shot" whether we have time to shoot before the match or not. That will let you see where your hitting. Of course people who show up friday evening will be able to shoot all they want.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

Great pics, great range, great time. Except for the wind shooting was great.
Thanks to your wife for the great pics and thanks to you Rodney for putting it all together.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

The wind was pretty insane. I had a great time though. Definitely going to do it again. Thanks to Rodney and crew for putting this on.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

Looks like you guys had a great time! I wish I lived closer!

Congrats Chris!

Why was Lasson shooting such a "cheapy" rifle and scope?

That guy has good taste, aye??? He won the fashion show portion of the event for sure.

How did you guys do the dueling tree stage? Were you guys shooting man on man, semiauto's vs bolt?

Dueling trees are tough to do unless both shooters have the exact same firearm and plenty of mags loaded.

Up to this point its just been 10 rounds each like was mentioned. 30 seconds shoot time. We shot it at 100 yards.
In the future I plan do only do the dueling tree on the advance course maybe. But with pistols and 2 ten round mags each. hopefully with the same pistols. Well see what we have available.

With the way it works now it doesnt really matter if its bolt vs semi. 30 seconds is plenty of time to get 10 rounds off and if the other person misses 3 shots and you dont miss at all you can clean it.

The only real way to do a dueling tree is the same firearms with unlimited ammo and a time limit. Otherwise, if neither of you miss a shot it will always be a tie. You cant do unlimited ammo otherwise ot eh 30 round semi's would havea huge advantage.

Re: UTAH - North Springs .22 Challenge signup

I see, 30 seconds and 10 rounds makes sense.

Can't miss fast enough to win, as the saying goes.

lol For me 30 seconds was way too long. I quickly let all 10 rounds go while Lasson laid back and just waited for me run out of ammo (not that I could hit anything anyway). When my last round flew down range, Lasson just slowly cleared the tree with out any resistance from me.

In all reality, it was a blast. I'm looking forward to doing it again. I'll just try to exercise a bit of patience next time.
