Which BUIS on new AR?

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

KAC. The design is more rugged than the Troys as they simply fold down if you hit them on something. The Troys when locked up can break. The KAC's are more expensive however, and if you're not planning on running the gun hard with irons you can probably forego the KAC and go with the Troy sights.

Pass on both the PRI and the GG&G, get the KAC's or the Troy's if you wanna save some bucks. The KAC's are also lower profile, especially the micros.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

The Troys lock up solid, a lot of the other ones wiggle. I would go with the Troys if you are going to run a red dot and a offset iron sight for a 1-x power scope. Dueck Defense and Knights Armament both make offset sights, although I am not sure why you would need flip up offset sights just another thing to brake. If it was me I would go with the Dueck Defense sights and the new 1-6 scope from SWFA.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

Running 2 sets of GG&G. No complaints. The rear sites fold down nice and low and work well if using a QD scope or red dot.

I know you want info on these, but have you considered magpul? Lighter, easier to manipulate, & MUCH cheaper(Fr. & R. for under $90). FWIW, the KAC set is a good both-eyes-open set. Don't have any exp. with PRI or GG&G. Troy are harder to manipulate, especially with 1 hand.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

You can go wrong with the Troy sights. Simple, strong, and in my experience, lock up nice and tight with no wiggle.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

I'll also echo the magpuls. If your hunting a lot, or running competitions, you may want a metal BUIS but the magpul MBUS are a very servicable set of sights and I've had zero issues with mine.

Looking at metal BUIS...YHM sights are all steel...upper will probably have issues before these would and they run in the $160s for the pair vs $200 for the other recommendations. I run them on .308 AR10s and other heavy abuse weapons.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

im running the magpuls, there the only ones ive ever used so i cant say good nor bad about others but i do like mine alot.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

Solid Daniel Defense 1.5. Set it and forget it. It is always there and most range buddies wont take the time to screw up your windage.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

KAC's are fine. I use them as the only sight on my "summer carry" rifle and love them. Get 2moa to 300 with very repeatable Accuracy.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

Have had both the magpul sights and troys and both work great. Never had a single problem with the magpul sights and same with the troys.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

Have Troy, but given how little I've used them overall, would probably go Magpul for next build.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

~ Troy ~

If this is a duty rifle and not a "toy", Troy or any of the private labeled Troy rear BUIS. The Troy is rugged, deploys rapidly, locks solid in "up" position, and easy to change aperture.

Don't get me wrong I like Magpul products, but I personally wouldn't trust polymer sights with my life.

I don't think you can go wrong with a set of Troys.

I personally use the GG&G MAD BUIS and MaTech sights.

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

Matech, $50 or so if you watch for sale forums and Mil issue.
they all do the same thing more or less.......

When do you think your life will depend on your BUIS?

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

A co worker is looking for BUIS. He wrongly thinks I'm a guru or something because I shoot matches with my antigue rifles. I have an LMT on order that I plan on mounting an optic to at some point so I have been researching the BUIS market some.

Based on my coworkers statements that he intends an optic to eventually be all he uses and wants something quality and reasonably priced to use as his only sight for the short term I recommended Troy. The owner of Troy just retired from our job so he may get a discount. He shoots no matches yet and bought the rifle to plink with once in a while. I tried to sell him on the idea of a sight that allows for elevation adjustments at the rear but hes not happy with the prices on the known brand manufacturers.

When I glass my LMT I'll have to decide if I just want to pack my factory sights or go with something else to keep attached on the rail. One of the primary wants for me will be the ability to adjust elevation at the rear rather than dick with the front sight post. Troys and most secondary irons wont allow this. I guess I should man up and learn my equipment and just know what holds to use for different distances. I primarily shoot paper (no steel where I shoot) looking for the x-ring so a set battle sight wont be ideal for me if I need to back up my scope. I hate the price but if I buy under glass mounted BUIS Knights will be my choice. If I go this route I hope they are good enough to use them in known distance iron sight matches that dont allow glass.

Any flaws in my thinking?

Re: Which BUIS on new AR?

I have a used set of Midwest Industries BUIS for $140 shipped.

They are nice but I now have Troys and like them better.
