its a very nice overall package

2q18kdl.jpg

a better pic of the crown it is smooth with no tooling marks
b5mf79.jpg

safety engaged it is very stiff hopefully it will smoothen out with use or i can take a stone to it
34ynza9.jpg

the vertical grip has very nice palm swells
2m2i2pg.jpg

i wish the barrel was a bit longer or the forend a little shorter the gun looks a bit odd as is
2q3zp6v.jpg

top view of the action notice no base screw holes
jr9pxu.jpg

very short bolt travel
2q1glcg.jpg

underside of the stock you can see the flat forend and slightly the palmswells
im30xu.jpg

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

the action screws take a T30 torq bit i wish other companies would catch up and start using these
aktm6s.jpg

the magazine is 5 round and oddly shaped but the 22lr,22 mag and 17 hmr come in 10 round flavors
5cx0r6.jpg

the trigger isnt very wide but it is stiff with no side to side play in it
s3znmg.jpg

rear action screw is just dusty you will see why further down
347k675.jpg

bottom metal is just a bent piece of metal i have to compress it a little to get it to fit
20gyy4o.jpg

another piece has to be use because of the crap bottom metal
2r7ptm8.jpg

stock inlett note no rear pillar actually i was suprised to see the front pillar but having just 1 almost seems worse than none at all
347hb2s.jpg

the pillar has to be trimmed to make room for the magazine assembly
iggkfn.jpg

complete action assembly

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

extractor cutouts on the barrel honestly i can forsee a burr getting started
wi2afa.jpg

.861 straight barrel so going up to the lilja .900 may require a little sanding
20pui5f.jpg

this is the bolt guide that sits inside the action on the bottom and is held in place with the rear magazine box screw
2j4zk1w.jpg

trigger and sear contact point the trigger pull is long, heavy, gritty and jumpy
nf4sia.jpg

the stryker contact is smooth and polished
10ykpph.jpg

the inside of the acion is also very smooth no sooling marks that i can see
nzhu35.jpg

last and very least the 11MM dovetailscope base
dmafi8.jpg

what i like
the gun balances very well in the hand
the stock is very high quality
the caliber can be swapped out with a new barrel and the correct magazine between 22lr 22 mag 17 hmr
many major parts look almost hand polished
heavy straight taper barrel but not too heavy
torq head action screws
the magazine seems well built and 10 round mags are readily available for all 3 calibers
flat forend for riding a bag
the bolt knob/handle can be replaced with a tactical unit if cz introduces one without the need for a gunsmith

what i dont like
the cost
the barreled action when in the stock is riding the right side of the barrel channel almost touching
the safety lever is a bitch to engage
the bottom metal is a piece of crap i can buy a good quality replacement from dip but for the overall price of the gun i shouldnt have to and i expected more
the trigger shoe is skinny and has a cast line running down the center it isn't sharp but i can feel it and i'ts distracting
the trigger pull is crap very gritty heavy and long once again for the money i expected more
the 5 round mags fit almost flush but the 10 rounders stick way out having a curve that looks like a ak-47 mag
the forend is so wide that my bipod rotates on it not having any curves to grab onto
the action screws get maybe 3 full threads into the action when tightened up i will have to take some measurements and replace them with longer screws
the magazine housing and barrel set screws are 3 mm allen i would prefer the whole gun have torq screws
closing the bolt gets a little stiff
i am concerned that with the cutouts for the extractors the chamber is going to get a burr
the 11mm scope base sucks the action isnt drilled or tapped so you have to use the correct rings that nobody stocks in 30mm and they are expensive or you can buy a dip dovetail to picatinny base

cost of the gun
910.00 including tax
85.00 for a dip 25moa base and a aluminium magazine well
200.00 for to send the barrel to chad at longrifles inc price includes threading the barrel for my silencerco sparrow with a o-ring shelf with a custom thread protector s&h and insurance both ways
timney replacement trigger 85.00

total so far 1280.00
if i get barrels from lilja to shoot 22 mag and 17 hmr whenever they come out they are 375 each plus having chad thread them and make protectors i will be above 2k and thats not including a scope yet

would i recommend the gun to a friend - NO
what would i recommend - cz 455 varmint

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

Heads up the DIP bottom metal dosnt play well with Timney trigger fitting will be needed.

How is the finish on the bolt guide and the corresponding bolt surfaces? Mine had horrible tooling marks, I ended up polishing them with a dremel nag finishing with an hour or so of hand lapping.

I kinda like the longer forearm with that barrel, it will also put the bipod further forward which is a good thing.

Looks good! If my 300 wasn't in a T 3 I would be all over a Manners, leaning towards a McM HTG style since it's pretty close in shape. Putting a rear pillar would be easy I did a thread on it, front was the hard part and they took care of that. Lamp rod would do the trick for the rear.

Into mine 1100 and my stock isn't as cool if it makes you feel better lol.

+1 I had to send my barreled action back into manners to fix a few things. the Timney trigger didn't fit but they made it work

As far as spending big bucks on special rings for that dovetail, GAP will drill and tap for like 10 bucks a hole. Thats what I did with my CZ. I threw a 20 moa US optics base on it, so now I can use all my regular picatinny style rings

Any I feel you pain dropping that much coin into a 22. Here's my CZ completed

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

The safety will get easier with use. Try a YoDave trigger kit before you spend the money on Timney. Get a rail. Different bottom metal can be found around. Rimfirecentral.com is a great resource.

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

Hooper Ordnace on here makes a nice replacement bottom metal.

How much does the bottom metal cost. I have a 455 PT on order and want to replace the bottom metal.

Also I have a yodave kit on my 452 and its great. Im sure its a 1 or 2 pound trigger now.

the bolt guide is fairly smooth but not polished it looks like it is a MIM part
i spoke with tom manners this morning about the barrel riding the right side of the channel i shipped the stock back to him this afternoon he is going to fix it and install a rear pillar before sending it back to me i also ordered a pile of different 22lr ammo so hopefully i will get the stock, barrel, ammo and rail around the same time

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

Just curious, did you try to shoot it before any of the issues arose. Mine has a whole inside the inletting of the stock; which I discovered after shooting it, but can't get my self to send it to Manners. Seems like you guys ordered Lilja barrels and started finding faults before you even shot it! I am very picky, but mine shoots well enough to not take a chance on sending it out; my luck prolly get worse! The gun industry loves people that always want to tinker!!!

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

wanted to update with a few more photos in its current configuration
according to my digital bathroom scale its current heft is 12.7 lbs

2rwknis.jpg

5 round 455 magazine next to a 452 10 round the only difference i can find is the front of the 455 mag has a cutout but the 10 round runs flawlessly

had the muzzle threaded for my sparrow

dip 20 moa base

dip magazine well has a big cutout but it doesnt affect loading

455 5 round magazine

455 10 round
2psjfxy.jpg

i wanted to try all of the ammo i had locally available to me
xcvsxj.jpg

all range testing was done @ 50 yards sorry i forgot to take pics of the targets

all of the remington did poor 1.5-3"
cci stinger and velocitor 5 shot groups hovered around 1"
the federal bulk pack and lightning also held around 1"
the eley, rws, wolf and aguila match were all 1 hole groups
but all of them produced inconsistent fliers if i let the barrel cool down for more than 30 sec i assume it is due to the lube/wax cooling down
the aguila superextra lead and copper did 3/4"
but the winner is the federal target it did 3/8" 5 shot groups all day long and aside from the bulk pack it is the cheapest so i will be using that from here on out

Re: cz varmint precision trainer pics very heavy

good deal going with the DIP metal well.

that extra piece you are talking about that shrouds the trigger also doubles as a tool for the adjusting the trigger nut to adjust poundage. trigger still has nasty creep even on the lightest setting. i have a yo dave kit waiting to go in, i hear great things about that kit.

love the torx bolts too, but i'm retrofitting my 455 varmint into an AICS airsoft stock, and will need longer bolts too. DIP makes a set, however at home depot i found 6mm pan head bolts 2"-3" long. not quite as nice as the original torx, but will work in my application.

same feelings with the 5rnd mag....mine was misfeeding the last round 9 out of ten times, went to a ten round and had no issues.

you'll be surprised how well that thing shoots even bulk value pack ammo.

minus the BM and trigger it is a peach of a rifle.
