Gents,

Just got my Choate Tactical stock for my Savage 10 FP today.

I am wondering what/how I should install it?? Just unscrew the old stock and install the new one??

Should I worry about surface contact or "bedding"??

I have never done a stock switch from a precision rifle perspective and am looking to understand how to do it correctly.
Tnx

I'd just take off the old one and put one your new one, not really any special way to do it that I have ever heard of! You could bed it if you wanted to, I've read many times that it doesn't hurt a thing in those stocks but also doesn't change things very much! Hope this helps!

Torque the action screws and you are gtg.

If I swap the stock and torque it in properly, how will I know if I need to bed it???

Do you know how to shoot well? If not then skim bedding will do nothing. If you know how to shoot and don't see the groups you want, some good groups with the average flyer then you might want to skim it to make sure the rifle is mated to the stock right.

I torque my Choate at 60 inch pounds and have had great results, skim bedding can't hurt as long as it is done correctly.

eta: I leave the rear screw that goes thru the rear of the trigger guard out and float the tang and it tightened up my groups noticeably.

Re: Savage 10 FP and Choate tactical stock

Thanks for the feedback.
I will torque to 60 and see how she goes. The gun is NIB, so if it shoots like cr*p, then I will have to decide what to do next, since I have never bedded a stock. Hopefully all will go well.
