Guys what is your opinion on the need to have a forward assist in a AR10 6.5 cred?
Thanks

Re: Ar10

I've never had a use for a forward assist. If the bolt doesn't close,by itself, there's ALWAYS something wrong. Usually out of spec ammo that you really don't want to be shooting anyway.

Re: Ar10

Been shooting the AR platform (AR-15 and AR-10) for many years and can't remember ever needing a foward assist. Like he said if it won't chamber somethings wrong.

Re: Ar10

Cool/wow factor. The BC Group of an AR10/LR308 is like a sledge hammer anyway, if it doesnt close soemthing's holding it open.

Re: Ar10

I have used a forward assist a few times on my duty M4 and AR15s, usually from having a dirty gun or not fully racking the charging handle. I use to be a firm believer that you also must have one on your AR308 platform. However, after fiddling with my AR10 at home I have come to the conclusion that under the weight of an AR308 buffer spring their really isn't any reason that under normal circumstances the bolt would not not go into full battery.

Like the guys mentioned above, if the bolt is not fully in battery, something is wrong.

Re: Ar10

I've only heard one reason to include a forward assist on the larger frame and that was hunting. Trying to be quiet and riding the bolt forward with the charging handle, a little push on the forward assist to assure its all the way in. That being said, i didn't put one on my hunting rifle and haven't run into that need for silence.

Re: Ar10

i do not use it, best way to get a stuck case stuck even more, if it doesn't go in, yank it out.

Re: Ar10

I used both in AR 10 6.8 and 233 and have never really needed at forward assist but I buy all my uppers with them now because IMO they look better and resell for more

They look sweet though......

Re: Ar10

Might be a streach, but if your ever in a situation where you had to sneak one in the chamber nice and slow (maybe hunting and forget to chamber one before), IDK prolly a streach. My LMT MWS does not have one, and i cant say I've missed it.

Re: Ar10

I use my AR-10T for hunting and it just takes a little practice on getting the extractor hooked. That is the hard part if you are trying to be quiet. Once it is hooked the bolt and carrier will easily go home.

If you hit the bolt release and it jams the last thing a person wants to do is hit the forward assist.
