Rifle Scopes MRAD Explanation

Ok... I need some help.

I have a new scope that is .1 MRAD and I am coming from MOA scopes..

I installed the new scope and got it sighted at 100 yards.

I reset my knobs and I have 140 clicks of elevation left..

I know that 1 click is .1 MRAD (.36 inch) at 100 yards...

My question is... Do I have enough elevation for 1000 yards.

*IF someone could explain the .1 MRAD value to me I would GREATLY appreciate it so that it will make corrections at long ranges easier for me to grasp.

Youre fine to 1000 with 14 mils of elevation with a 308 and 175 sierras.

Have you run that combo over a chrono? Without running the numbers, I can't say for sure, but an 18" barrel with factory loaded 175s may be a little anemic at 1000.

Oh missed the 18" barrel.

Yea shoot it over a chrono to see what velocity youre working with.

Divide the number of clicks by the barrel length then multiply that by your base MOA slant number and that will tell you how far you can shoot with it.

I have NOT ran it on a chrono yet... I will try that this coming week and see what numbers I get.

I found I can shoot my .22 exactly 0 yards. I thought it had more in it. 0 MOA base kills it. Same with the Steyr 7mm mag. WTF?!?

Yep you will be close to max travel I just checked on my night force program and with a little guesstimating I pulled 13 mills With out using mills in reticle! with the reticle u can just about get to 1200 but the bullet is subsonic at approx 1025 But these are just rough numbers obiously but in any situatin u have pletty of dope to 1000 yards I figured a 2450 fps 18 inch barrel is just to short try lowering your bullet wheight till you get back up to the 2600 fps range the amaxs shoot the best my opion maybe try the 155 amax the bc is slightly lower but your trading that for velocity with that bullet u will only need about 12 mills to a 1000 if u can get the fps up to 2650 just see what u get better groups with Idk just some things to think about Good luck....

You need to do a little more study, you are giving out erroneous information...

100 yards is 3600 inches, .1 mil is 1/1000 of whatever distance you are looking at.

.1 mil is .36 inches at 100 YARDS (1/1000 of 3600 inches).

Just look at your reticle, no need to measure anything.

Well most everything that has been said so far is true. Slightly off topic. It is funny how we need to give everything a measurement even though the average person cannot estimate the size, speed, or volume of an object any better in one measurement than another unless it is something they use on a daily basis. Case in point: ask 10 random people to estimate a range on an object. The answers will be all over the place. Then ask them to do it in metric, they'll say " oh I can't do that I only know standard units!" hilarious. We really should switch to metric, base 10 is much easier to calculate in.....

There should be 4 dots and a post where the reticle gets thicker...including the post, that's 5 mils.

Now just look at the individual mils...the CENTER of the dot to the CENTER of the next is one mil.

The diameter of a dot is .2 mil typically....so from center to edge of said dot is. 1 mil.

You can visualize where half a mil is...directly between the two dots. So now you have a .5 mil index point.

Get a ballistic calculator like jbm ballistics and enter your rifle and load data into it and tell it before hand to spit corrections IN MILS NOT MOA OR INCHES OR WHATEVER....MILS.

Your card should look like this:

100--- zero
200-- .5
300-- 1.5
400-- 3.2

And so on...

Dial the correction or hold it using the reticle....its that easy. If you miss, use the reticle as a ruler and measure how far in mils you missed and add that on. It don't matter if its 2ft or 2 miles away...if your half a mil low its 5 clicks up. No range math...

If you need 10 mils for 900yds...you can dial 5 and hold 5...or dial the whole amount its the same thing.

If you can count to 10...you can dial corrections.</div></div>
