Well, it has taken some time, but I am finally getting things worked out with my OBR. I've played with load development and refining my gasser technique, taken a pretty long break to go back to my bolt for some competitions, and recently gotten back to getting everything working with the OBR.

I really like this rifle. It is both highly accurate and reliable. The addition of the Surefire MB has really helped my ability to spot my own shots. In fact, the group below only looks like a 4 shot group because my first shot was off the right edge. I was able to see the splash, correct the wind call and put the next 4 rounds into a ~4" group at 805 yards.

This is an 18" OBR firing handloads:

    LC LR brass
    44.4 grains Varget
    175 SMK
    FED 210M
    MV ~2535fps

If you are thinking - "hey those bullet holes look a bit strange" - I was in the process of throwing the target away when I decided to snap the photo, so I slapped it back onto a piece of clean cardboard.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a pic of the OBR (before the Surefire MB)below. I am not really doing any "Benchrest" type brass prep. No neck turning, weight sorting, etc. The brass is simply FL sized in my Forster die, trimmed to length if needed, bullet seated with the Forster micrometer seater die all on a CO-AX press.

The scope is a HDMR. I love this scope. For the money I think its pretty hard to beat. Mine has the H59 reticle, which I know is the topic of much debate, but I really like.

Looks great and fantastic shooting! I just ordered an 18" last week but went with the RISR/POD CTR combo. This makes me even more excited to get mine. I too will have to learn how to properly drive the semi.

Is your rifle the XTRAXN version or pre-XTRAXN? Any issues with the "fluting" reported by some folks for reloading your brass?

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

Well done! I absolutely love my OBR.

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

Thanks. I was having a good day on the trigger. Now I just need to hardwire those skills so that I can make this repeatable.

    Nice looking stick...

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

Thanks, Broker. I really like it. For me (a lefty who has always shot a RH bolt gun) for intermediate ranges, this rifle makes a bolt gun pretty hard to justify. When I am having a good day, the ability to put rounds on target quickly is not something I can duplicate with a boltgun. I do love boltguns (in fact my M2008 action just arrived today), but this OBR has alot of advantages.

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

I agree with ya... This rifle lives up to the hype. I've owned my fair share of rifles (GAP crusader, LMT MWS, REPR, Barrett M99, TRG22...) and I must admit this semi does everything I could ask. The accuracy, reliability, fit and finish is a 10. I too got the pre Extraxn version and have seen no ill affects. I'm counting down the months until my TBAC 30ba hits my FFL's door. The only reason I'd ever sell this rifle is to dip into the 6.5 realm and I don't believe that will be any time soon. It's nice knowing (without any doubt) that I'm the weak link when at the range.

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

K_4c I couldn't have said it better. The OBR is my only experience with a large platform AR, and I am sure that there are other manufacturers that produce high quality units. I can't compare as I have no experience with them. I will say that the selling point for me was the reliability.

I was fortunate to be able to see one work at a Magpul Dynamics course, and even put a few downrange with it. This thing was filthy with hundreds of suppressed rounds fired at the course and it was dirty beforehand. It never failed, and maintained incredible accuracy out to 1100+ yards. That's what sold me. Could others do the same? I am sure some could, but I saw this performance with my own eyes, and that made the difference for me when dropping $3K.

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

Just watched the Larue sponsored 2010 Sniper Challenge video.. made me want to order one. Very nice shooting.

Re: Finally Getting Comfy With My OBR

Ordered an 18" OBR, with XTRAXN. won't get delivery until probably August. I don't reload, yet. This will be my first AR-10 platform. Highly considered the GAP and JP LRP but settled for the OBR. Nice looking setup mkollman, I look forward to getting mine.

Nice results makes me even more anxious to get mine all set up
