I bought a r700 5r I want a new stock, and I want a SS 5-20 scope and they are on sale ( thanks facebook). I have to choose one. they are pretty much the same price, I am torn between a whiskey 3 stock and a manners with an adjustable cheek. can you guys help me a little. I have a nikkon prostaff 3-9x40 on it already. and I think the stock would help with the accuracy. The range I am joining is out to 600 yards.

Re: I have to make a choice

The stock that's on it right now is probably not hurting your accuracy. I would want a better stock too, but I think the more pressing thing at the moment is a better scope.

Get the scope while it's on sale, then get the Manner's when funds allow. The couple hundred you'll save on the scope right now, plus sell your stock and bottom metal then you're half way to the Manner's with a mini chassis!

Yup.....and then a trigger....

roger glass first. I needed to hear the voice of reason.

Aurora sportsmans club is nice but pricey. I was really impressed with their set up though.

Re: I have to make a choice

The stock is only limited in its ergonomics, the chassis doesn't have a liability until you can shoot better than 1/4 moa. Realistically changing your stock to anything less than an aluminium chassis will only improve ergonomics. Glass on the hand is the last place you want to skimp out. Buy once and cry once. I have seen guys with 600 dollar Savages and a 1500 dollar scopes shoot with the big dogs.

Where is this other range?? I only found ASC when I was looking for long range. Unless its farther south/west.

Re: I have to make a choice

yes after I get glass for my rifle I am joining ASC. I really hope I meet some people with custom rifles to I can see some stocks in person and see how they feel in mt hands, I dont think I am going to find a whiskey 3 though, the manners is nice but the whiskey 3 is about 30 bucks cheaper. I am planning on ordering the scope on the 13th or 15th at the latest. I really really want a SS5-20 scope. and I might put the prostaff on my AR and sell the aimpoint that is on there.

ASC is the only range in my area with a range over 300 yards.

Re: I have to make a choice

Definately glass first, stock can be "cheaply" modified to perform

Preach it, brother! The word is out among value conscious shooters and the brotherhood of the barrel nut is growing fast. I have more than twice in my glass and mounts than what I have in my Model 12 LRP .260. Shoots lights out.
