Gents,

Today at about 3:30 I received a Fed-Ex package that contained my slightly used AICS 1.5 chassis (Thanks for the great deal Dar). Tomorrow I will pick up my new Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD that I will be mounting to the chassis. I will be ordering a Night Force 20 MOA rail this evening and in the next couple of days am going to be getting a Night Force NXS, Night Force rings and then after that Jewell trigger and Atlas bi-pod (this may take a while as Atlas is not shipping to normal people at the moment).

Needless to say I am pretty excited about it and can't wait to get to shooting my first .308 (nothing like starting in style...right?). I will post pictures in the next couple of days.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

well good luck and i hope you like the acis, i got one and traded it for B&C medalist stock. the stock grip angle wouldn't fit my hand. besides the point, good luck with your build

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Sounds similar to what I have planned for my build. Right now I have a 700P barrel action sitting in the safe. So far I can check new bolt knob off the list, lol. Post pics of yours when you get it built.

And so it begins...

Still has that 'new rifle smell'

Pretty as it is OEM it is gonna look even better with the AICS

Disassembly begins:

Even for a clutz like me the disassembly was amazingly easy...2 screws to barreled action:

Assembly was just as easy...2 screws to a Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD/AICS:

Waiting for a torque wrench and she'll be GTG:

That's all I got at the moment. I will catalog the build process as I go along. Stay tuned.

How about the TPS line of rings and bases, as good as anything out there and less expensive. Dont know why everyone wants to spend more than they have to.

This. Just got my Atlas with the ADM mount today.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Very nice! Keep us updated. Nice set up!

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

The new stock really makes it pop. How much weight did it add?

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Knots, I am not sure...the Hogue was pretty light so I would imagine that the AICS added quite a bit to the weight. Thanks DAR, you rock for keeping the AICS in such great shape.

I haven't installed anything else to the rifle yet but I have ordered a Nightforce 20 MOA rail, I have bought nightforce lightweight rings (thanks 468shot) from another member here who, like DAR, didn't use his gear and kept it in good shape for the next owner (seriously guys, if you just want to look at the stuff buy a picture), an AI sling that I am waiting on the mailman to deliver from dieselgeek, and a NXS 3.5-15X50 NPR-1 MOA ZS/HS scope that I still need to pay for and the postman still needs to deliver...but the deal is done (thanks Propulsionclimbing). The man-fund has gotten it's butt kicked here in the past couple of weeks, but I can't get the smile off my face. I will post pics when I have them to post. Stay tuned.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Very cool!

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

I'd love to get my hands on an AICS to try it out, but the local gun stores don't stock anything of the sort.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Looks great! How much fun is that? Looks like your able to find a deal!Need more pics!

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Cowboy I am particular and the rail needed no bedding. It sat perfectly straight on the receiver with the two screws snugged but not torqued (and I really, really looked for a reason to bed it).

Jello, my local dealers don't really carry this stuff either. I bought the AICS from a member here who took VERY good care of it and gave me a VERY good deal on it (Thanks again DAR). I suggest scouring the 'options and accessories for sale' section.

Thanks for the comments guys, but I just noticed the Bed, Bath and Beyond bag in the 4th picture that is sitting in my gun safe....that's pretty embarrassing

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Uncledog it has been a blast. The best part is sourcing the parts for it. So far I have bought the chassis, the rings, the scope and a AI sling that is on it's way to me from members here at the Hide (Big shout out to Dar, 468Shot, Propulsionclimbing, and dieselgeek for their proper initial care of the parts that I have bought from them. The only parts that I bought new were the rifle itself and the rail.

Yeah, I have done the JB Weld trick in the past.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

That's looking strong sir. Thanks for the detailed journey.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

That was just cool as heck to read. It was like deja vu. Only thing I'm lacking from being done is the NXS 5.5-22x56 I'm tracking UPS from Euro optic. and cutting in the monopod Then to start load development.

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

What is your hand stop? Never seen one or used one

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Looking forward to starting my R700 build when i get home also.. Using an AX chassis but pretty much same setup otherwise

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Finally got her out to the range (stupid weather and life getting in the way). Conditions were NOT ideal in SE Michigan last Sunday with steady 10-15 MPH cross winds gusting to about 20 but I am happy with the performance so far (factory ammo)

Re: I have started my Remington 700 build

Would be curious to know what kind of difference swapping the stocks actually made. When I switched mine from the hogue into a manners MCS-T3 it went from between .8"ish"to 1moa to .5 or better when I do my part. Would imaging similar results if not better.

Good looking rig and happy shooting
