Rw hart brass saver?

Re: Rw hart brass saver?

I'll let you know in a coulpe of weeks or so, I've just ordered one.

Re: Rw hart brass saver?

It will let you get a few more firings out of a case. Unless the case is an expensive or rare on, they're a lot of work and can yield varying results.

Re: Rw hart brass saver?

Got one, used it a few times, and it's just sitting in the drawer, now.

It is not the miracle cure for loose primer pockets, but it does help, somewhat.

Results will vary in consistency, as the tool is smacked with a hammer or mallet, so the mallet operator's repeatability is what governs the results.

The tool works by peening up a ridge of metal around the circumference of the rim of the primer pocket, much like a military primer crimp, but not as pronounced. It WILL hold a primer in a loose primer pocket, but it does not tighten the whole thing. Lasts for a couple more loadings is all.

If you're using really expensive brass in some obscure caliber, it might be worth the price and the effort.

Paul, can you use it several times on the same case or is it a one time only?

Ian

Yes, it can be used on the same case more than once, but it seems to be less effective each successive time. I ended up scrapping the worst offenders (loosest primer pockets) after the second time. It just had the "feel" of not really doing as much after the initial try.

Just my experience with it, I do not have anything to actually measure what it is doing or not doing. After the inital use and additional firings, the second time the tool was used the primers were noticeably easier to seat. I may have gotten 3 or 4 additional loadings per case IIRC.

Also, as a side note, I never tried it on primer pockets that were so loose that a fresh primer would just fall back out. I do not know if the Hart tool would do enough to help in this case, and yes, I've been reloading long enough to have made most all of the mistakes that cause enlarged primer pockets

Re: Rw hart brass saver?

I received my Hart case saver a week or so ago and can say it works a treat.

I was told to use a hard rubber mallet or similar but this didn't work so I used a normal hammer and all was well.
