Hey gents,
Ive been trying to decide on a custom build and have for various reasons gotten hung up on being able to choose a caliber. My choice was between 260AI and a 338lm. I initially was going to go with a 308 and read about 260 and then 260AI and was swayed into that caliber if I was staying small. I shoot 338lm at work and love the round, but am having a hard time justifying it as my only go to bolt gun. The build I have been quoted for is as follows:
rem 700 action $650
mcmillian a5 (bottom rail, flush caps, fill, adjustable saddle) $1000
Rock Creek Barrel $600
Jewel Trigger $350
BDM $550
Blueprinting and bedding $750
20moa rail $175
Total: $4075 (I live in Canada, so my prices may be higher than what things could be purchased for down south)
Now my question, I have come across the SRS gun from DTA and for around the same price can have a factory setup that shoots 1/2 MOA and for an extra 1500 can be both 308 and 338. Essentially giving me two guns for the price of 1 and a half. This could solve my dilemma on not being able to choose a caliber for my first build.
My question to you guys is, would you go ahead and get the SRS and if so/not why?
I also have a few questions about the SRS:
1.) can you maintain a positive cheek weld while manipulating the bolt?
2.) is a 26" barrel on a 338 really going to allow me to push that round as far as its capable?
3.) is the reciever durable, or has it been prone to cracking and or breaking?
Anyone that owns an SRS and can help me get a better feel for the gun, I appreciate it. I am currently in Afghanistan, and I shoot bolt guns on mcmillian stocks, I have never played with a bullpup and am a bit nervous about throwing money into a platform that I havent even held on to. But the gun itself looks like it almost perfectly suits my situation, and I do like the fact that the mags have room for 4" OAL.
Thanks again.
