I have a savge long action, I am wanting to build a couple 260 's. I was thinking of rebarreling a savage that i already own. I know about the 6.5's and all the others. I have beat it to death. Has anyone built one and how does it perform.

Re: savge 260 long action

Are you asking whether a Savage is worth building or asking if a 260 is worth putting together? We just finished two new Savage 260s but on short actions. Yes I really like the guns and Yes the 260 is a shooter at least out to 1000 yards we use them for. So far we haven't had any problems with the one my son has been using (mine hasn't been shot in a match yet) keeping up with any other brand gun or caliber.

For the money they are hard to beat and will shoot nearly as good as anything you spend many times more on.

Re: savge 260 long action

My first Savage build was a 260 on a 110 long action...works great. My donor rifle was a staggerfeed action (blind mag well attached to action) that started life as a 270 Win, and the 260 fed without fail.

I had a Savage 30-06 that I didn't like and had my smith rebarrel it to a 6.5 Creedmoor...best decision I ever made, I love the gun now. I had him remove the ugly azz barrel nut and the barrel was done like the other manufacturers do.

Re: savge 260 long action

I was asking more for the long action part. I have a 25-06, thinking of rebarelling in 260. I want to build a 260 for tatical shooting, this may be my son's antelope hunting gun and keeping the same calibers for reloading purposes.
