I just got this a couple of weeks ago from the good people at GA Precision. I ordered it when I returned from my Iraqi Tour of 2011 - the last for me...I changed the build one time in August and Ken Lin was nice enough to bear with my changes. Well, after some waiting it is here. The rifle is a 20" Bartlein 308 1:11.25 (threaded 5/8 x 24) that was threaded for my Thunderbeast. With it stripped naked it weighs in a 7lbs 2 ounces and add the Thunderbeast and it adds about a # to it at 8lbs. I just put the USO on it for the pictures as it was sitting around waiting for my other rifle to come back. The stock was dipped in Multi-Cam as you can see by the pictures. I am looking forward to shooting it just waiting for some money to buy rings for a Leupold 3 x 10 PR that I have at the house. As this is going to be my hunting rifle the Leupold will work just fine. So, here is the rifle:

as usual the smith's at GA Precision do an awesome job on fit and trim on the rifle. I always love the day when you get that call...rifle is complete!

What coating is on the bolt body? Looks a sweet hunting set up.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Thanks for the prompt reply. It just looked a different colour to the rest of the rifle.

I want to coat my Lawton but am told the tolerences will not allow for ceracoat.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Nice rifle I really wanted to order one but too darn impatient to wait for it.
Also, Gotta that love the manly background in the pic!

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

The rifle is, well, you drive it from the wrong side. I wish I could get one. That is one nice rifle. Welcome home Man.

    Thanks for clarifying the colour.

I might just try my bolt in ceracoat. Looks sweet.

I'll tell you something, if mrs scotch_egg wanted that patten on our walls I too would own a GAP here in the UK....

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Sorry fella I forgot to say nice home coming present to one self. Congratulating on the tour as we say this side of the pond.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Thats one sweet gun. Also, thank you for your service.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

I've got a set of TPS Alum. 30mm high rings I'll send you if you want them.
    Drop me a PM.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

I love the rig and have a 7wsm non-typical myself. George told me that I could get a non-typical built with a #4 and have it threaded. That's my next GAP that's about to get ordered. We have all been hunting with non-typical this year and love them.

    Re: GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Sweet rig! I have a .308 non-typical on order, with the multi cam. It's nice to see yours turned out so well!

Is that a TAB sling, and what are you using to cover the butt of the stock?

I normally have it on a Tactical rifle where the stock is much thicker so that is why it is looks kind of saggy.

I took it off another rifle to stage for the picture kind of like the USO scope. Kind of too big for the rifle in my view. Guess I will pay more attention next time.

    thanks for keeping me straight

Re: **UPDATE Range Report GA Precision Non-Typical 308

So I get a chance to take my 308 GA Precision Non Typical to the range today. I use my 168 Hornady AMAX loaded to 2.820 COAL and 2.20 OGIVE. Now mind you I bought this for my hunting rifle but it keeps up with all my Precision 15lb rifles and this rifle is a hair under 7lbs. I was shooting five round groups at a 100 yards checking the loads and re-zeroing from my last trip. This rifle now has 65 rounds down range so it is just a baby. The groups speak for themselves. My question is: when does GAP's Non-Typical become just another typical GAP rifle?
    GAPrecisionNonTypical003.jpg

I was shooting it with the Thunderbeast 30P-1 on it. What an awesome rifle. I will take it out to 200 and 350 to see what it can do but so far this thing is worth the money spent on it. It has a Leupold PR 3 x 10 on it and it works well enough and also helps keep weight down.

Re: **UPDATE Range Report GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Very nice! I am loving my LH Non Typical as well.

You might want to try some 155gr Scenars in yours. I used them successfully on a New Mexico elk this year (out of a custom 30-06), they should serve you well. Fantastic all around hunting bullet.

Re: **UPDATE Range Report GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Looking good J. Hopefully after Memorial Day I will have more time to get to the range with you.

Re: **UPDATE Range Report GA Precision Non-Typical 308

Looks like you have been having some fun today also! Great shooting and good looking rifle.

I can't wait for the Recon to get completed to see how that new beast is. I have a USO SN-3 waiting in my safe for it.
