So i have read on a few different forums that the last shot from an AR when the bolt locks back will stray slightly from the others. I read this when people have been talking about shooting groups and the last round will fly off by 1/2" or so from the others because the harmonics differ when the bolt locks back instead of chambering another round. I dont see how this is as the bullet has already left the barrel before any of this happens. Could someone explain this? Thanks.

Re: Accuracy on last shot?

On all but the last shot there is a cartridge pressing against the underside of the bolt at the time of firing. I'm not sure that's the answer, but there are good reasons for benchrest rifles to be single shot.

Re: Accuracy on last shot?

I have heard about this as well and don't believe in it. If you do all the fundamentals correct your shot will not be affected. Search for Knight11B on this forum he recently wrote an article explaining this. I can say for myself and myself only that when I zero I still do it the Army way 3 shot groups with a total of 18 round or less rounds. Never seen a shift on my last shots but like I said I can only speak for myself. I have seen while zeroing other people not use to the AR/M4 platform their third shot will be off. To me its all on the operator not the weapon platform. Hope this helps a lil or at least pointed you in the right direction.
