I am in the market for an AR piston system with different positions for suppressed fire. I have been looking at the Barrett REC7, but I what to know if their is anything out there that might be better?

Re: Best piston driven AR

The BEST piston driven AR on the market? Man, that is purely subjective because everyone is going to have their favorite based on X, Y, or Z.

I really enjoy my POF and would love to have a POF P415 but as with anything, you will find both good and bad reviews where one guy claims it's the best rifle in the world and others won't piss on the factory if it's on fire.

The "best" thing you can do, if you can find the time and opportunity, is try to get behind a few and see for yourself. If you don't have that option, do lots of research and base your decision off of that. Take a look at not only Barrett but also POF, LWRC, LMT, PWS, and HK.

Best of luck in your research and decision!

Re: Best piston driven AR

I own 3 LWRC rifles. I would love to own several PWS, POF, and Barrett rifles.

Re: Best piston driven AR

I just got a POF...only have about 500 rounds through it, but so far I LOVE it. I went back and forth between the LWRC and the POF, but in the end I liked the look of the POF better.

Re: Best piston driven AR

No such thing as best IMO. Barrett, LWRCI, PWS, POF. They all seem to be nice guns, just pick which one strikes a chord for ya.

Re: Best piston driven AR

All four ARs I own are LWRC, if that counts for anything:

M6A2
M6A2-DMR
M6-SL
REPR (16")

No regrets.

Re: Best piston driven AR

Been shooting my LWRC M6A3 for 4 years now, and it has never had a malfunction, Regardless of ammo. With SWA 77grn its 1MOA or better at 100. For a piston AR, i can't ask for more.

Re: Best piston driven AR

I own two LWRCs and really like them. POFs come with many upgrades. That is something to consider. I am not well versed on the LMTs. A special ops guy once told me their DI guns are hands down the best. It really depends on your own experience. Research, research, and then research. I have a 16 inch M6A2 that I wanted to lighten a little and was making several consideration to change to another weapon brand. I ended up sticking with the platform but chose to install a 14.7 inch barrel to lighten the weapon. I have had ZERO issues with mine and chose to stick with what I know. LWRCs work well and I look forward to receiving my upgrade in the next couple of weeks. I have a new Aimpoint T1 waiting for it to return. It all depends on what works for you. Good luck on your decision!

Re: Best piston driven AR

If you like the Barrett don't be scared of it buy it they are a great rifle! That said I have owned about everything else with the exception of a few and I can tell you LWRC,LMT,POF are also great rifles...I give the advantage to the LWRC and the LMT based on the weight/feel...With the LMT you can change barrel, cal, length, without changing uppers...
