Gents,

I am thinking about upgrading my standard DPMS AR 10 charging handle to be easier to use. What are your suggestions for retrofitting and why?????

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

vltor/BMC gunfighter, your coice of large or small charge handle

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

I eneded up with teh VLTOR large it's just more ergonomically correct than the stock charging handle. But you can't go wrong with the smaller version since it does have more finger contact point to un-lock the charger. The only thing that would be better than the VLTOR is a left side charge handle like the FN SCAR

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

What about a replacement latch, like the one from Badger??

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

I'd look at PRI gas buster... It's a very robust set up. The badger latch replacement is just a band aid on an open wound (not all components consisting of the charging handle generally are not up to par.)

I think it is this one...

Simple piece of steel with no bends to flex and work harden. I shoot left handed, and it worked very well on my AR15. With a PRS stock on my LR6.5, the handle would contact the upper cheek piece. I have no problem with it on my LR308 with a UBR. I have installed a 1" spacer on the PRS stock, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to use the ambi release on that rifle now.

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

I just added a BCM gunfighter Mod 3 (large) to my LMT and its awesome. Makes charging the rifle with a large eyerpiece optic a piece of cake.

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

+1 for the BCM Gunfighter Mod 3. I was very impressed with how much better it is over the standard charging handle.

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

i had that fulton ambi. it was kinda painful to operate with bare hands. i wish someone with a mill would offer to mill a groove on any handle to make it function like the PRI gasbuster. that seems to be the difference on the PRI.

and once you get and look at the BCM/vltor you will see why its design is what makes it better than just a nifty latch. although i stopped looking at the latches, maybe someome has a better design now

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

BCM. I will never own an AR without one. If the gas blowback suppressed is an issue, use some RTV.

what is TRV????

Re: AR 10 chrarging handle upgrade

RTV is a silicone sealant.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

I've used this before, too (because I had it on hand), and it works well.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

+ another 1 for the BCM Gunfighter large. When it's cold and wet, I could hardly operate the stock handle; piece of cake with the BCM. Nice to have on a .223 AR, but just about mandatory on a big block AR, IMO.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

Any suggestions for a good ambi handle? From the prone position I really have to break position to work the CH with my left hand. I could keep my position much better using my right hand. I'm right handed, so for any other position it's not a big deal.

Thanks.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

When it comes to charging handles i've tried so many i think i've lost count because i'm a lefty trying to use a weapon that was designed for righties, then i came across the Mech Armor Ambi charging handle and my search stopped.http://www.mechdefense.com/. It is over sized which is great if you have optics and works from any position. also when it comes to costumer service they are unbelievable.
Just my 2 cents but once you watch video and try one you will never go back to a standard handle again

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

I am a big fan of the gunfighter mod 4. The latch is bigger and easier to use over a stock CH but its not so big it gets in the way of other stuff.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

PRI-makes quality stuff! I have two of their charging handles on my 308's and I'm very happy with them.

Re: AR 10 charging handle upgrade

Having both the BCM/Vltor and the PRI Gas buster, my vote goes to the BCM charging handle. Although you cant go wrong with either one.
