Any ideas what is going on with ammo production right now, the market is seeming to dry up and prices are seeming to climb just as fast. I’ve been on sites from Palmetto State to SGAMMO to Midway and the inventory is way down; anyone have any insight?

Re: Where is all the ammo

Obama is winning the best gun/ammo salesman award again. Glad I am a handloader!

Re: Where is all the ammo

most semi autos... IE ARs... are doing the same... manufacturer's are creating a false shortage to drive up prices.... so they can cash in like they did in '08

Re: Where is all the ammo

A lot can be gleaned from a name....I mean seriouly.

Re: Where is all the ammo

Well I don't know about the rest of the US but recently here in GA I've had to put 100-200rds a week into the heads of various zombified critteria running around. Started a few weeks ago when a squirrel wandered out on the range staggering and bloody. Then it was possums and racoons. Hell, just last week Bob from the Jiffy Lube showed up asking for brains. Had to put em down.

But don't worry, we're doing proper population control. Yall ought not to have any trouble north of the MD. Plus we have these:

^That is ninja awesomeness right there! Is the tape a "ranging tool"? or do you just call the victim before you put him out from 4000 yards away?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the Kitchen Sink; I think you may need some more rail space and an adapter.

No scissors, spoon, or toothpick, either.

Re: Where is all the ammo

Not just Ammo but guns as well. A good friend of mine has his FFL and he said that Davidson's just has a fraction of the inventory they usually have. He said it always happens this time during election years. Even on ammoman prices have gone up and am a long time customer of theirs, not to offend anyone....

Re: Where is all the ammo

I remember primers, small & large, were not available for months and when they became available they were rationed. I had just got the Rock Chucker Kit and could not load a round until 3 months later. Same thing for the powders that are popular for .223 & .308, could not find Varget for almost a year.

I used the 2008 election as the perfect excuse to buy every firearm I always wanted, but could not realy justify paying for like AR's & AK's, along with high-cap mags for everything firearm I owned capable of holding one. Took me 10 months to get my Rock River AR. I even purchased double-edged Bark River fighting knives after spending time in the UK where you can't even carry a pocket knife these days. Of course Obama used all his political capitol in his first term on that wonderful healthcare reform of his so he could not go after firearms. I think if he wins a second term he will go after them for real this time; we will see the assualt weapon ban become law once again as it's just in a Liberal's DNA and cannot be helped.

There is also no doubt that manufactors are taking advantage of this to raise prices, and creating "false shortages" to justify it would not surprise me one bit.

Re: Where is all the ammo

It's not false shortages. The demand for AR's is real. Most of the price increases are due to the fact that retailers no longer have to offer discounts to sell their products. A good friend of mine, who is essentially a kitchen table dealer (SOT), has 400 guns waiting on paperwork.

Re: Where is all the ammo

Ammo shortages seem to be regional. Here in ND every time I have gone into the stores I see lots of it. Sure the price seems excessive but I have not bought any loaded ammo in years with the exception of 22lr. I was in a gun shop in MN near the cities and they looked like they had not ordered ammo in years. They did have a guy stocking ammo from a cart that had thousands of rounds on it. I asked and he said he can not keep it on the shelf. He said he has orders for thousands of rounds a week and they are coming in but people want them that fast. About the only thing on the shelf for a while was 300 savage.

This about sums it up. If it was truly about shortages, they would have prepared in advance. They know election year is coming yet they do nothing and then put out BS stories on forums and magazines saying how "we just can't seem to keep up."

Re: Where is all the ammo

I asked my local gun dealer about inventory shortages. He indicated that inventory is in the process of recovering from tax season. Inventories are driven low to minimize year end taxes and will recover in the next little bit. Sounds possible?
