Gunsmithing Tight (0.299 Vs 0.300) bore question

Re: Tight (0.299 Vs 0.300) bore question

Nothing. Unless you shoot crap bullets.

Tight bore 30 cal stuff stems from Palma. International rules dictate that during team events the host country supplies the ammunition. Handloads are only allowed for individual portions of the matches.

"Back when", it was determined that tight bores (.298/.299 and .307/.3075) shot various types of garbage 308 ammunition better than std 300/3075 bores. (Radway Green, etc)

The rest is history.

You may get a pinch more velocity with a tighter bore, but it's not necessarily going to make the gun more accurate.

Hope this helps.

C.

Like Chad says, notta. 99.9999% of my 30 cal Bartleins come as 1-11.25 5r .299/.308 and they do drill.

Thanks, Just wanted to make sure there is no down side with heavyer bullets.

Re: Tight (0.299 Vs 0.300) bore question

I'd run the 1-11.25 twist 5r .299/.308 and not look back.

Mike Rock thinks 1:11.27 is better, makes me get gray hair in the process
