my advise is to forget the "build", buy either a Savage 10fcp HS or Remington 700P and shoot the damn thing

If you went the Savage/Stevens route you could rebarrel the gun yourself. Not sure if your into that but I went that direction and have not looked back yet!

save up for some nice glass at least... i had my fair share of lower end optics... never again

I see your sig has a Savage BA. Why not do a Savage build? Should be able to have a pretty nice shooter on $1000 starting budget.

Well if you want to go the Remington route... get a 5R, 700P, LTR, SPS - T (replace with Bell and Carlson stock) and get the BEST OPTICS you can afford.
Long range / precision rifles is not a "budget" sport. Now with that said you don't have to get a AIAW/Custom action rig with Schmidt and bender to play either. But don't think that you're going to be drilling 1/4 moa at all ranges with a piece of shit.

Remington .308 AAC with 1:10 twist is around $600, exchange stock for bell and carlson or watch for a 700P stock on the forums here. 5R is nice, and is stainless, but that will run you a $1000 which means less for glass and ammo. The 5R may outshoot the AAC by a little if at all, but certainly not 40% better. Dont skimp on the glass, there are plenty of reviews in the optics section, but for budget I would say nikon monarch, bushnell elite or SWFA SS.

No problem there. If you play your cards right you can get a heck of a rifle for about $700. I would contact Hart Barrels out of New York. These people are the real deal. They've been building some of the most accurate barrels for decades now. It's simple
1. Choose your barrel contour here http://www.hartbarrels.com/tapers.php
2. Choose your caliber here and review the rebarreling prices http://www.hartbarrels.com/rebarreling.php
3. Choose any fluting options here (optional - and not necessary) http://www.hartbarrels.com/barrels.php
Then just give them a call (315-677-9841) and arrange the peticulars. Hart does not get a lot of press here, but they are top notch in every way. I had them turn a run of the mill Weatherby Vanguard that usually shot around 1+ MOA into a bonafide 0.25 MOA rifle with a fixed 6x scope in a no. 3/light contour! Astounding. Their gunsmithing is top notch -they will true the action, lap the lugs, etc., fit the barrel. Their prices give some of the best values you will ever find, and their barrels are among the finest.

Why? He has a budget of around $700. That's enough. Why don't you elighten us and tell us exactly how much he needs? Man, some of you people on here are in the clouds. You don't need a $2,000+ rifle if you want to shoot tight groups. I shoot next to guys like you too often and your money can't shoot better groups than my $700 rifles.

well thank you all for the info its much appreciated i opted for the 5R now my last question is 20 inch barrel with threads or the 24 in without threads i dont think that having the 24 over the 20 will give me that much of an advantage so it would be better to have the threads to possibly install a break or a can eventually. i am picking the rifle up wendsday i found one for 1099$ at a local shop close to my place. i felt it was a pretty good deal considering the reviews that this platform has recieved

i was leaning tward the 20 inch for the threads and also it being slightly more compact i did some research that between the 20 and 24 inch 5R each inch only adds like 15fps i dont think im gonna miss 60fps in the long run

id say bell and carlson stock and check out the link farther up on this thread that jayman 10x posted on hartbarrels also i am not up to date on the axis if it has the accu trigger in my opinion leave it alone i have a savage 110BA in .300win mag with the accu trigger and i love the feel of it its a great set up and a good way to train not to punch the trigger
