I'm not sure if I did this correctly but kept POA in the bullseye for each shot and makred each one lots of walking to the 100yardline and back. Also chronogrpahed each shot as well minus the first one. I went from 42.4 to 50grns in .3 grain incraments. So looing at this 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,would be what I should load. Brass was Hornday Match, Pockets cleaned, flashole resized, Federal GM Match Primers, Trim to 2.005 and all weight withing 1grain. Are they going fast enough was looking at 44.5grns for my load.

1. N/A
2. 2256
3. 2275
4. 2298
5. 2310
6. 2306
7. 2347
8. 2364
9. 2385
10. 2715??? NOT SURE ABOUT HOW THAT CAME ABOUT?

Re: Ladder Test SCAR 17 and RL 15

I've never done a ladder test but with my limited knowledge, I see some problems.

100 yards is too short for a ladder.

Based on weapon and trim length I'm assuming we are talking 308 yet I see no bullet weight. Unless you are shooting a 200+ gr bullet your velocities seem low. What is the barrel length?

Re: Ladder Test SCAR 17 and RL 15

I have looked at Alliants Load data and for speer 168s with 45grns they are getting 2710? I loaded up an my max was 2385fps with 44.8 and .2 is not 400fps different. So I'm lost not that speed is a killer thing but just wanting to make sure I'm tracking along.

Re: Ladder Test SCAR 17 and RL 15

Speed has to do with barrel length. I bet that load data is with a 24 inch barrel and you are loosing velocity with that shorter barrel.

I'm also not familiar with the freebore of a SCAR 17 or the pressure curve of RL15. It could be that RL15 works better in a longer barrel. And it is possible that your rifle has a lot of freebore which would lose a tiny bit of pressure before the bullet hits the lands.

Because of this, I think your velocity may be correct except for that one spike to 2700 fps. That is likely a bad read.

If you only have 100 yards to work with, try the OCW method with 3 round groups.

Re: Ladder Test SCAR 17 and RL 15

Okay thanks. I load pistol and come close to publishing speeds but I though I was jacked up couldn't figure out how I was loosing 400fps. Would 200yards help Im kinda limited to yardage I think max i can get is like 220. But I'm working into being a rifle shooter so I don't want to jack my self up by not being a SUB-MOA type guy. I can shoot decent maybe 1.5inch groups no issues not sure at 200 but if it will help I can give it a go this week at 200 or 220.

Re: Ladder Test SCAR 17 and RL 15

200 would be better but ladders are usually done at 300 or further. Research the OCW method. It works better at 100 yards than the ladder and if you want, you can do it at 200 as well.
