You need .338 when you're shooting gophers on the golf course! Everybody knows that.

U.S. Optics 3.2-17x SN-3 T-PAL, TangoDown bipod, Savvy Sniper sling. I smell gopher...

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Myaa, it's basically just your average everyday... badass long range quad railed bullpup bolt action .338 Lapua with a USO on top... Ok, I like it.

I have to laugh, because I've often asked myself. My foe, my enemy is an animal. And in order to conquer him, I have to think like an animal and whenever possible, to look like one. I gotta get inside this dude's pelt and crawl around for a few days. Who is the gopher's ally? His friend. The harmless squirrel and the friendly rabbit. I'm gonna use you two guys to my dirty work for me. It's the gopher mwah ha aah ha haha aaaaaaa!

Pay no attention to that bush, moving around over there by that tree. It's just a bush. Nothing to even look twice at. Nothing to be alarmed about. This looks like it could be gravy. I smell varmint poontang. And the only good varmint poontang is dead varmint poontang. I think.</div></div>

Be aware of the gophers which are armed with an AI AX338 topped with a 5 x 25 S & B, a very formidable prey. The hunter may become the hunted.

Nice rig!

The mags came that way. I really like the setup, especially if you run a can on it.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Just got my DTA srs in last week and ordered it in FDE/FDE. Mine looks a lot darker then that one, what was yours ordered in?

I'm pretty sure mine's flat dark earth, too. Maybe the lighting just makes it look different. It was a bright, sunny day when I shot that pic.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

I just love the innovation here... what is the barrel length?

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

I like your setup. My SRS is the FDE plastic chassis but the reciever and rails are black. Anyone know how they coat their guns (Duracoat/Cerakote) and what color? I would like to make mine look like yours...

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

The .338 LM barrel comes in 26" - 27.5". It's nice having a long range rifle that short. Like I said, especially if you run a can. Otherwise, you end up with with a musket-length beast that's a bitch to get around with in urban settings, climbing, vehicles, hides, etc.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

that one is now on the top of my wish list... nice ...

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Got my 3.2-17x back from U.S. Optics for flat dark earth Cerakote, so I added a couple pics.

I think this rifle is now ready for a quick trip out to Sniper Country to check the place out. Looking forward to it.

Thanks to Desert Tactical Arms, U.S. Optics, OPS&S, B&T Industries and Savvy Sniper for their support on this weapon.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Last pics are from DTA's "Sniper Country" range facility in Idaho, getting dope out to 1800 yds.

Great range with multiple draws that each have their own different wind currents to account for. I like that!

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

This platform is being sought out and put into action right now by those who need it most. It's inspiring to see the weapons development and witness how things evolve.

Some guys will resist the bull pup design for decades to come, while the Operators at the highest level carry the new state-of-the-art weaponry. Same thing happened with the 100-year-old 1911 pistol and the new polymer Glock. Those who use them in the most hostile conditions know why the advances are made and make use of the improvements accordingly.

Others will follow....for some, it will be much, much later.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

LOL. Awesome rig there! Good glass choice too...

Thanks, guys.

Grant, I've taken this one out to 1800. I'm impressed with how it shoots, as well as how practical it is to handle, especially in urban terrain. No more need for a musket-lengthed rifle for the longer range work.

HUGE leap forward in weapons handling, especially for Spec Ops, where you're constantly getting onto-off of the helos, concealed entry into urban hides, climbing walls, getting into and out of various vehicles, etc.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Definitely on the want list. How does working the bolt prone compare to a regular rifle? Seems like you would have to reach your right arm back a bit more to cycle the bolt.

Running the bolt is about the same. I was surprised when I first got on the rifle. That's one of the first things I checked, just out of curiosity. Not an issue. In fact, the bolt is very smooth and easy to run.

One thing I was particularly impressed with is the way they designed the spring-loaded monopod. Just get on target and press the button and it fires into place. Let go of the rifle and it's dead steady on target. Particularly well done.

One thing I did notice about the way I set my tactical rifles up, is that with this particular system, the way I like to flip my scope caps to the right puts the ocular cap in the way of the bolt cycle. So I'll probably end up flipping my ocular scope cap straight up on that rifle, even though that normally drives me up a wall. I like to see over the top to view my elevation turret without "prairie dogging". Something I notice a lot of other snipers aren't even thinking about until they get busted on a stalk under heavy observation.

Flipping to the left is also no good for me, because I scan with both eyes open while I'm on the rifle. So, I think my ultimate fix will be to modify an ocular scope cap that flips all the way up against the bell, getting it entirely out of the way. If the manufacturing molds wouldn't cost me over $90,000.00, I would have already had my own line of scope caps dominating the shooting world. Maybe it can still happen. I just have to find the right business relationship and funding to put it into motion. I have 8 innovations that would absolutely revolutionize the optics cap industry if we could get it in motion. Scope caps would look and function entirely differently, contributing to the effectiveness of the optic, rather than the potential liability many currently tend to be.

The caps that come on Premier Reticles scopes come close to doing this. Check out Tenebraex Tactical Tough scope covers.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Nice rifle! Especially the .338 Lapua... I just got an AR-30 and was thinking of that round; however, the cost is a bit more than the .300 WM I ended up getting.

Have fun with it!

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

that is an outstanding shooting spot and the DTA isn't bad either.

One day when my time overseas ends I will get that rifle. Till then I just live through everyone elses.

Nice range.

Re: Desert Tactical Arms .338 Lapua

Once my GAP AR10 arrives my next rifle will either be a DTA like this or a Seekins in 223 or 300 blackout. To many rifles and so little money.

Yeah, that's hopefully my next barrel for it. I'm hearing great things about that round, but haven't gotten any trigger time with it, yet. Apparently, it's doing better than the 408. Innovation is a kick!
