Anyone use the Berger 215gr. hybrid targets in a 300wsm? I'd love to try them but would like some input first.

Give 7828ssc and RL22 a try. 7828ssc if you're concerned about temp sensitivity, and RL22 if you're more concerned about velocity. RL17 may be a bit too fast for optimal load density.

I think the 215's might go well with RE-19, im not sure, RE-17 might be a bit too fast.

73.5 - 74 grs H1000 average 2720 fps
75.5 grs right at 2800 average
Berger 215 hybrids grouping at .289 to ..366" 3 shot groups. @ 100yds

Theoretically, you want powder that creates ideal pressure for a given bullet weight and has burned completely by the time the bullet has gone three-quarters of the way through the barrel so that the expanding gas pushes the bullet out at the best possible velocity. This can vary depending on bullet length and twist rate, but from what I have seen (and I'm sure others would agree with me) is that RE-17 works great with bullet weights up to about 200gr. rounds in standard 300 WSM barrels, any heavier bullets I find RE-19/RE-22 give better velocity. For instance, I did some load developing using RE-17 and RE-19 and Hornady 208 A-Max, and this is what I found:
-The max load using RE-17 was 65.5 grains and gave me a velocity of 2914fps average, that is pretty good.
-The Highest load I developed for RE-19 was 67 grains and gave me a velocity of 2953fps average, that wasn't a max load either since I ran out of 208's by then, I hope to get a new batch in soon to continue load development, I'm sure I could probably add another grain or two until I reach max.
I'm thinking 2850-2900 should be possible with the Berger 215's, what I'm not sure of is whether or not RE-19 or RE-22 would be the best powder, I guess I'm going to need to get some 215's in and try both the powders to find out.

Then you're wasting powder, but eh, I don't know the exact science, so it doesn't matter to me.
I'm going to hold off on getting the 215's until I get some more Hornady 208's in, since I want to keep playing with those. Once I'm done with that, I'll get to trying these out to see what kind of numbers I can get.
