I have a Trijicon Accu-point 5-25x50 on my .308 but I need to get some other rings to bring the bell closer to the barrel. Right now I have some highs (perhaps even ultras) that are putting the bottom of my bell .65" off the barrel. I am hoping to get it down to .25-.3" with the new rings.

I have the proper height of the rings figured out, I just would like some recommendations on what type I should get. I don't feel 6 screw rings are at all necessary so I am looking at some 4-screw USO, NF, or Badger rings..maybe Seekins.

I am sort of assuming any of those quality rings will do just find on a .308 but just wanted to get some feedback before I ordered a new set.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

I went through the same thing. I found that Seekins were less expensive than other high end rings, but were every bit as fantastic. Some people like the Badgers because they are steel and I totally understand. Badgers are great. But I would seriously need a hammer and an energy drink to do any real damage to my Seekins rings. Plus, you can talk to Glen Seekins if you have any questions and he's a SH member and a great guy. All the rings you mentioned are awesome and will take more abuse than any scope can handle. I just think that the Seekins are the best deal.

NF Ultralite rings would not hold my scope in place unless I torqued them beyond 25 lb-in. My roommate experienced the same thing with a separate pair of NF Ultralite. Some people say it's the black coating & needs to be lapped. Also, the finish on the 1/2" nuts wear easily. $163 for rings that need to be lapped? I will never buy again or recommend to anyone.

Otherwise between USO, Badger, Seekins -- all great product. Buy the one you think looks the best & fits within your budget.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Good to hear. I will have to check out the Seekins. I take it they are aluminum rings judging by your post? I had some USOs on my 375 CT and they worked great but you pay for them, so I wasn't sure if I could get away with some cheaper rings.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

We carry 3 of the four brands you mentioned and I use Seekins. Let me know if I can be of help. We have them in stock.

Their are different types of aluminum though. Some are stronger than steel. I'm not a metallurgist, I just know they are strong. Best to research the type they are made out of yourself so you can get an expert opinion on it. Their site says which type they use. http://www.seekinsprecision.com/

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Another vote for Seekins here. Switched my original XTR rings to the Seekins and haven't looked back! Just ordered another set for my Weaver 4-20x50...can't wait!

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Seekins! Great customer service and a quality product.

Besides the awesome rings, that's the biggest selling point of Seekins IMHO.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Would NOT put Seekins on my rifle if my life depended on it. TPS either.

Badger, USO, or a number of others.

This is my opinion. If you don't like it, tough. I have legitimate reasons and will stand by them.

It means all the fan boys will come defending Seekins rings and asking why I wouldn't put them on my rifle. So to preempt any issue, I added my disclaimer.

Lol, agreed. Big difference between "would" and "wouldn't"

Beyond the original failures with some of the 6 screws I haven't heard of any issues with Seekins; care to let on your 'legitimate reasons'?

With that said I prefer BO because I prefer steel. It comes up to torque much quicker than the aluminum Seekins.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

LOL...I was a little confused too

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Been using Seekins for years and never let me down at all the matches I shoot. Have held a large S&B 5-25x56 on everything from a .243 to a 300WM and never slipped or had a problem. Have also used Badger and NF and both work very well.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Well for a while there we just had a solid trend of Seekins fans. I am also a fan of steel rings and this is sort of why I am leaning more toward Badgers, but I can't say I've completely closed my options up yet.

I have Badgers on there right now but they are Extra High (they came off my flattop AR and are now on my R700).

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Steel vs Aluminum has been beat to death in rings but it's not about which it is made from but the quality of how it's made. Do you have steel AR receivers and rails or steel scope tubes?
wink.gif
Quality aluminum rings, like Seekins, are made from machined billet 7075t-6 aluminum. If you can break them I will be very, very surprised.

You should be surprised because that fact, along with how it was handled, is part of my beef with Seekins.

Well tell the story. I would like to hear it. Glen has always had great service.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Seekins or AADmounts are my choices now days for mounting scopes on anything. Unless I need quick change then its Larue.

Mike,
Im sorry that nothing i could do for you was good enough. I offered to replace your rings with 4 screw (was going to be a while before i made 6 screw), you could wait and i would replace with 6, or i would refund your money. Oveously whatever i did or didn't do caused grief with you and for whatever reason im truly sorry.

To this day we have had less than a dozen sets of rings come back because of design or manufacturing issues in the 8 years we have been making rings! Now, we make approximately 50 sets per day. I will take those odds.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Where did you get the scope I searched the internet and only the 5-20 comes up.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Look at the TPS, they are excellent and very reasonably priced.

Glen, here's the problem. You didn't do ANYTHING to resolve this. I told you I would wait. Yet after a long wait, while you started production on the new rings and others were receiving their 6 screws, I was still being left out in the lurch. And after continued attempts at getting the 6 screws, I finally decided that your ignoring my attempts wasn't going to change. I don't want 4-screw rings, I don't want my money back. I wanted 6-screw rings, the SAME 6 screw rings everyone else seemed to be getting.

That's the problem. You'll take your odds and fuck the customers that get screwed. That's fine, that's your business and how you want to run it. But when you screw a customer over don't expect them to fawn all over your stuff. I don't care if you make 50 rings or 5 million. If you don't resolve my issue to my satisfaction I'm never going to recommend you.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Seriously? I just publicly apologized for wronging you in some way.

You didn't get fucked you just didn't allow me to solve the issue. After saying you would wait you ( or your friend, weren't these your friends rings?) got impatient. Everyone was waiting a lot longer than you did and I did exactly as I said I could. I also think I remember, it's been a few years that he took 4 screw rings in the end? If that wasn't satisfactory then send them back and I will still offer to refund your money or get you some 6 screws

No one was getting 6 screw rings that you would have accepted because they weren't the exact set you wanted for replacement. if I was shipping 6 screw they were leftovers from stock and not new builds. Otherwise you would have gotten some. I explained this to you on the phone and in person at shot show when you confronted me more than one time. It was going to be a while before I could build you a set of 6 screw rings that would work for you. Again, your options were to wait, take a full refund or a 4 screw set of rings. Those were the only options I had for you at that time. I was a one man show and that was the best I could do. I'm sure I promised you a date and let it slip, but I was doing the best I could. I wasn't trying to fuck you over. I dont screw anyone and I wouldn't be in business or have succeeded in this industry if I did.

Those "odds" we're to show how my product is not infirior and that they are reliable. Not meant for you to twist it in some way so you could feel better about your decisions.

I don't expect anything from you, but dont expect me go sit back and read lies about me personally, my product or my business. As a moderator of this website I would expect you to act like an adult.

I'm sorry I may have lead your thread off track.

We have setup quite a few of these scopes. I'm not sure how you did your calculations, but I would recommend low rings regardless of what brand you choose. Lows should get you as close to the barrel as you can go, allow a flip up cap and still have just a smidge of room, comfortably. The lower you go the more comfortable your cheek weld will be. If you do choose ours and you aren't comfortable with lows or they are in fact too low we will swap you out.

Funny, I get a generic apology about "something" (you don't even know what, how sincere of an apology) and I'm supposed to shout hallelujah from the rooftops? How did I not allow you to "solve" the issue? You never sent me the rings, that would have solved the issue. Rings weren't sent, issue not solved.

After saying you would wait you ( or your friend, weren't these your friends rings?) got impatient. Everyone was waiting a lot longer than you did and I did exactly as I said I could.

Actually, there were members here who were taking delivery of 6 screw rings. Old or new stock, doesn't matter. There wasn't anything special about the rings I had. They weren't custom in any way.

I also think I remember, it's been a few years that he took 4 screw rings in the end? If that wasn't satisfactory then send them back and I will still offer to refund your money.

You offered the set of 4 screws in lieu of the 6 screws as a temporary fix until the 6 screws became available because if you recall I was without ANY rings at that point. I don't want a refund, I don't have the 4 screw rings any more.

No one was getting 6 screw rings that you would have accepted because they weren't the exact set you wanted for replacement. if I was shipping 6 screw they were leftovers from stock and not new builds. As I said, your story was you had zero 6 screws, not old stock vs. new, zero sets. Again, there was nothing special about the size/height of my rings negating any special need. Next, I didn't confront you more than once at the Shot Show. Again, recall, that was where you gave me a line about getting them too me as soon as you could.

It was going to be a while before I could build you a set of 6 screw rings that would work for you. Again, your options were to wait, take a full refund or a 4 screw set of rings.

Why would it take so long to get rings that would "work for me"? There was nothing special about those rings. The first set of ANY 6 screw rings out of your shop should have been shipped to me as a replacement.

There, I fixed it for you. You dropped the ball and all I wanted you to do realize what you did.

Those "odds" we're to show how my product is not infirior and that they are reliable. Not meant for you to twist it in some way so you could feel better about your decisions.

I never said your rings were not good or reliable, I said I wouldn't use them specifically because of the way you handled this...

I don't expect anything from you, but dont expect me go sit back and read lies about me personally, my product or my business.

Everything I've stated is a fact as you've admitted, you let things slip. I never got an apology prior to this post or anything resolved to my satisfaction; and no, I don't want anything from you now other than to let you know how I feel.

As a moderator of this website I would expect you to act like an adult.

As a vendor, I would expect you to take your customer service seriously; especially when you were a burgeoning small shop. And the fact I'm a moderator is irrelevant. So I'm supposed to let things pass because my name is green? I'm still a consumer.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Mike, I do respect and treat all of my customers seriously and have pride that my company has the best customer service and support in the industry. And I am taking it seriously. A delivery date slips and all of a sudden you got fucked? "Not putting seekins rings on my rifle if my life depended on it" is a bit of a childish statement dont you think?
You are consistently saying how bad my product is or my company is. Its not the truth, I'm sick of it and im not going to sit back and watch anymore. It's just how you perceive the one issue you had and after years are still hurt because you wouldn't allow yourself to be helped.

Im leaving you to your thoughts. Your completey correct. Good luck to you.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Glen,

Here's the bottom line facts.

Through your own admittance you dropped the ball. I never got the rings I wanted.

I never got a sincere apology (not the generic one in this thread) for you dropping the ball.

That's all that was needed.

Now that you've grown from a one man shop to a successful business you can choose to brush me to the side, and that's your prerogative. But you could have solved this a long time ago with a simple, sincere apology.

Re: Got the scope, need some rings.

Well I found out that the ones on there right now are Badgers but I still haven't decided exactly I am going to get. I have someone who may be interested in buying my scope for their AR-15 and keeping the rings that are on there so I haven't jumped the gun yet.

Glen, thanks for the recommendations.

Mike, sorry you had a bad run-in with Seekins. Hope you guys get that all straightened out
