I have found my load for my remmy 5r milspec. It is as follows.
175 smk
43.6 grains of varget
CCI BR 2 primers
Federal brass
2.915 OAL I know that I have to single load, but I am working up a competition load.
This is a 7 shot group @ 100 yards. Gonna shoot 3, 5 and 700 yards next weekend to see what happens a little further downrange.

Re: remmy .308 5r milspec load found

Wow, NICE work! Congrats. Mind if I "borrow it", for my 5R? I've been looking for a good 175-8 load, and haven't had the time.Need a "lite" load for 168s? Try Viht 135, 37.3 gr., behind a Hornady 168BTHP, at 2.8010. My 5R shoots em into 1 hole, when I do my part. I know it's a "coaster", but a lot of fun, at 100.

Re: remmy .308 5r milspec load found

I tried a similiar load with my 5r. If you crono. them, they will be +or- 2500 fps and will go subsonic before 1000yrds. Just FYI. Nice shooting though.

Nice shooting; I'm not at home right now to check my notes but if I recall correctly, my 'pet' load so far with my 5R is 43.5 gr of Varget...

Re: remmy .308 5r milspec load found

I have a few loads that work great in my 5R.

175 SMK @ 2.820 OAL
43.3 Reloader15 (2680 fps)
47.5 2000MR (2685fps)
Winchester primer
Federal/Hornady/Winchester brass doesn't matter
All shoot under 1/4-1/2 MOA

178 Amax @ 2.955 OAL
42.5 Reloader 15 (2533fps)
Winchester primer
Lapua brass

168 Amax @ 2.820 OAL
48 2000MR (2768fps) or 43.7 (2675fps) & 45 Reloader15 (2747fps)
Winchester primer
Federal/Hornady Brass

168 SMK 2.830 OAL
44 varget (2702 fps) & 45.8 Varget (no chrono that day)
Winchester primer
Federal brass

168 Hornady Match 2.860OAL
48.5 2000MR (2775 fps)
Winchester brass
Federal brass

All loads above are 1/2" MOA or less. My 5R doesn't seem to care for Varget but I'm not giving up yet. Picked up a couple more lbs today. Reloader 15 & 2000MR Work great though.

Please keep this post going.

Re: remmy .308 5r milspec load found

Huckleberry65, I've got several hundred of the 178 Amax ready to load. So far they have been disappointing with 2000MR, which has been my preferred powder lately. In my experience, the 178's like 2550 fps and not 2680 fps like the 175 SMKs. They have not been interchangeable. My next try will be using 2000MR with a ladder test to see what they like. Unfortunately, it will be a while. Just had surgery last Thursday & my Doctor doesn't want me lifting anything over a gallon of milk for 5 more weeks....
