Greetings Gentleman - I'm new to the forum so if there is an obvious source to answer this question, please be kind enough to direct me to the correct location. I've searched some of the previous post on reloading but can't find any recent posts on suggestions for the following issues:

I have a fairly standard 338 LM rifle built by GA Precision (Templar action; AICS stock; 9.5 twist; 26 inch tube) that I am just breaking in. Can you please comment on the following:

1) Best OAL for round (250 gr SMK) to fit in AI magazine (is 3.600 +/- inches going to be the best)? When I measure the OAL with a modified cartridge gauge, I get way over 3.600 inches? Will the round still be accurate with that much jump?

2) If you are willing to single feed the rounds, do you get better consistency/accuracy with a longer OAL?

3) I was going to start with Retumbo, any suggestions for amount of powder for the 250 SMK?

4) Suggestions for cartridge trim length (2.714 inches?) the best?

Any other recommendations. Much appreciated.

Thanks Sendro Man - if you could please educate me on what you mean by "CIP" in regard to your response, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Current 338 Lapua reload suggestions please

CIP is a longer mag... Maximum overall cartridge length: 3.75"

edit..

compared to the standard long action magnum BM with a Maximum overall cartridge length: 3.65

Re: Current 338 Lapua reload suggestions please

Got it, thanks. Will the CIP mags fit in this type of rifle or do you need to make special modifications to the rifle?

Someday I going to get a 338 LM. People, please tell me how bad is recoil really is with a decent muzzle brake?????? Am looking at the Rem 700 with factory brake that will dig a hole in the ground when shooting prone. And folks think its blown from all the dust.

Re: Current 338 Lapua reload suggestions please

9.5 is a pretty hot twist. Why are you not considering 300gr bullets moving a little slower? Not critical, just wondering why you choose 250's.

H100 is popular with .338 enthusiasts as well. Don't overlook it just because you like screaming, "RRREEEETTTUUUMMMMBBBBOOOOO!"

My Rem Sendero in 7 Rem Mag kicks way more than my 338 TRG with the brake on.

I never had a dislocated shoulder surgically repaired and sometimes, when shooting the 7RM, I'll pop it partially out. I've never done that my 338LM.

Think 270/30'06 with a brake. I've never fired mine without the brake, over the 6+ years I've shot it.
