Greetings Gentleman - I'm new to the forum so if there is an obvious source to answer this question, please be kind enough to direct me to the correct location. I've searched some of the previous post on reloading but can't find any recent posts on suggestions for the following issues:
I have a fairly standard 338 LM rifle built by GA Precision (Templar action; AICS stock; 9.5 twist; 26 inch tube) that I am just breaking in. Can you please comment on the following:
1) Best OAL for round (250 gr SMK) to fit in AI magazine (is 3.600 +/- inches going to be the best)? When I measure the OAL with a modified cartridge gauge, I get way over 3.600 inches? Will the round still be accurate with that much jump?
2) If you are willing to single feed the rounds, do you get better consistency/accuracy with a longer OAL?
3) I was going to start with Retumbo, any suggestions for amount of powder for the 250 SMK?
4) Suggestions for cartridge trim length (2.714 inches?) the best?
Any other recommendations. Much appreciated.
