single stage reloading press for 308

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I love my Forster Co-Ax, it truly is a superior design, but a RCBS Partner Press is all that is needed, I use the Partner press at the range, Co-Ax at home.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I have an RCBS Rock Chucker, works great.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I just picked up hornady's lock-n-load classic kit. It will come with a hand primer and powder charge system, digital scale. I ditched the powder charge system for the trickler(it also comes with this) and with the classic kit there is a priming arm right on the press so there is no need for the hand primer. Saves space on the bench and produced my first rounds last weekend. (500 free bullets on the way as well in the deal...)

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

My Lee classic has servered me well. Strong frame, and good design. The price is good too. The forster co-ax is a good choice, but a little out of my budget.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I load my .308 ammo using an RCBS RC-II I bought well over 30 years ago. I just can't get it to wear out so I can buy something new and fancier. It just won't give up. It's sized and loaded everything from 9.. up to 30-06. I've broken the edge off of some pretty stout benches when sizing the big stuff and yet the press just keeps on going. Every once in a while I oil the ram and pivots. After thousands and thousands of rounds there's still no noticeable side play in the ram.

Unless RCBS has engineered some of this quality out of the new ones I guess I'll replace this one with another similar. That is if it fails before I die

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

Press doesn't matter as much as the dies. Get yourself a decent set of benchrest dies preferably a set with a separate body and neck sizer. If you're running a gas gun, get a small base body die. After you get the dies, then buy whatever press you feel like, although I'm a Forster Co-Axial fan. No shell plates to deal with and dies go in an out super fast because they aren't attached to the press. But it's really the dies.

By the way, the last reviewer is a moron.

You're better off spending a couple hundred on dies and $40 on a press than the other way around.

If you don't want to deal with neck tension then these are decent dies.

And if you're running a gas gun, then this set would be better.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

+1 Forster Coax, if not then spend the money and buy a Redding T7.
I have both and love them..

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I have a Rock Chucker II and a Lyman turret and both are okay but what I use should make no difference to you at all, neither one are what I would get again.

Get a Lee Classic Cast if you want an excellant single stage press; price is low, value is very high and the user features exceed any press of its type at any price.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

+1 on the LEE Classic! Will upgrade to the Redding T7 someday

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I am ditching my Lee Turret, and am going to get either a Redding Big Boss II or a LnL Classic (I already have a LNL AP). Rock Chucker is also on the short list, but i like the 2 mentioned above more.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

rock chucker and redding or hornadys new dim dies
i also have a lee classic cast that i ust to seat the bullets with , that way your not constantly changing stuff
one to resize, hand primer and the other to load bullets
then when its setup you just reload

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

I used an old RCBS RS-2 from about 1985 up until about 18 months ago when I started loading 338 Lapua, then I bought a rock Chucker supreme. I think pretty much any O-type press would serve you well.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

RCBS rock chucker ans associated everything is almost standard equipment for an affordable quality setup.

it's the "remington 700" of reloading equipment.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

You can spend as much as you want, BUT my Lee products always do their job very well.....one of the Challenger Breech kits or the Classic Cast with breech lock and just add from there.

Funny you should mention this. I just bought a Lee Hand Press yesterday to use at the range. I don't compete, just want something simple for load development. A $40 press that will do just fine for loading the 25-30 rounds I might shoot during a load development.

Re: single stage reloading press for 308

Another vote here for the Rock Chucker. I've been cranking out quality ammo on mine for over 5 years now and it has suited me well.

Diddo....so many good O-frames in this world.
