I have an HS Precision Savage in 308. Sometimes when I pull the trigger all I get is a click noise as the sear is blocked by the AccuTrigger. I don't have big hands and depressing the trigger blade completely without touching the trigger at all is difficult. This happens enough where it's really getting on my nerves. Not knowing if the gun is going to fire or not is distracting. I'm considering removing a very small amount of metal from the upper portion of the AccuTrigger where it blocks the sear. Not enough to prevent it from blocking the sear if the trigger is bumped, but enough where the sear clears it every time when the trigger blade is NEARLY 100% depressed. Has anyone done this?

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

This often happens if you put pressure on the side of the trigger. You can't side load the trigger at all.

Make sure you are pulling straight back.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

Everyone who shoots my rifle has the same issue with it. At this point I'm putting so much attention to detail in pulling the trigger absolutely straight back that it is messing up my accuracy because it is such a distraction. I would really rather fix it than replace it, but long term it is just unacceptable the way it is.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

I have the same gun in 300WM and have not experienced this problem.

I know it is a different trigger system but my .22lr trigger does not have this problem either.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

I know they just stamp these parts out. Maybe I just got one with a burr on it or something. At the very least I think I should clean up the parts that touch and smooth off any sharp edges. Maybe that will solve the issue.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

Send it back to Savage - I'm sure they will make it right without you having to mess around with the trigger.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

If it came to that I think I would rather just replace it. I'm just starting to look at triggers and it appears that Jewell is the hands down favorite. They aren't made for Savage though. What's up with that?

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

If it'll fit get a Rifle Basix SAV-2 trigger----easy to install and an awesome trigger!!! Just put one on my new model 12 which had an accutrigger-hate to say it but the accutrigger was a total pos compared the the RB.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

OK. I finally got around to taking my action out of the stock and checking out the AcuuTrigger. I have never actually had one to play with before so it was kinda fun

. I'm sure that I could fix the problem with a small file by rounding the top of the AccuRelease where it comes to a point VERY slightly. It wouldn't take much. Might not even be able to tell visually that anything had been done to it. While I was looking at it I noticed some grease and crud on the sear and in the groove that the sear rests in. I cleaned it out with Q-tips and degreaser. It seems to work alot better now. I even adjusted it as low as it could go without it dropping the sear from the bolt being closed hard. If it gives me trouble in the future I might file that corner down a tiny bit, but for now I'm going to give it a chance to preform properly now that it's clean.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

Hope that sorts it out...
But before you go play with live ammo, Load an empty shell & do all your checks again for safe functioning. Including loading and giving the rifle a good smack on the but & make aure it does not drop the firing pin. I know some rifles test safe when empty, but becomes evil when there's a cartrage in the chamber...

+1. I replaced the factory triggers on my Stevens or Savages as soon as I got them with the RB's. Sav-2 on my Stevens in .243, Sav-1 on my Model 10 and Axis in .223. Inexpensive and definite improvements.

R-Raven </div></div>Thanks. If I decide to make any alterations I will be very careful. All I have done to the AccuTrigger so far is clean it and adjust the tension. I closed the bolt very hard a bunch of times to see if the sear would drop. If this changes with a live round at the range the sear with still get blocked by the AccuRelease just as it has been doing the whole time, even when I was trying to fire it. I should be able to test it in the next couple days.

Savage rifles with an AccuTrigger can only use the SAV-1 or SAV-2 triggers. Savage rifles with the AccuTrigger and AccuStock can only use the SAV-1. I don't have the AccuStock or the generic stock so I'm not sure if the SAV-2 would fit. If I can't get the AccuTrigger to function to my liking I will call Basix and see if the SAV-2 will work on my stock. Right now I'm pretty hopeful i can get this AccuTrigger to function good, but I've broken things before so we shall see

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

I took the rifle to the range yesterday. It worked terrific! The trigger was very clean and crisp. I had no problems with the sear dropping early. Their was nothing wrong with the way I was shooting before, I just had a dirty sear. I'm actually glad I had this issue. If it had worked satisfactory from the beginning I would have probably never messed with it. I guess it's better sometimes if things need figuring out or you never learn anything.

Re: Problem with my AccuTrigger

So my Accutrigger gets dirty and it's starts having the same problem as before. I was sure I could fix it so I did a little operating. I drew a thin line across the top of the AccuStop with a Sharpie. Then I used a very small bit(because it was a tight squeeze) to dremel off just that small area I had marked with the Sharpie. Then I used a tiny file with very fine teeth to make it smooth. I'm thrilled with how well it works! Even if I side load the trigger the rifle will still fire as long as I have the trigger blade over 95% depressed. The AccuTrigger safety still works perfectly as long as the trigger blade isn't depressed. Now that the problem of the sear releasing before the AccuStop had completely dropped below it has been rectified I think this is better than an aftermarket trigger. I say that because it's safer. It can still only fire if the trigger AND trigger blade are pulled, but it will also not fail to fire when they are INTENTIONALLY pulled.
