Anybody have a pet load for the SCAR?
Due to the 1/12 twist I am thinking of basically a 155 A Max load....kind of a TAP clone.

Re: SCAR 17 pet load

Bump since I'll be in the same boat at some point.

Here is an old thread including some Benchmark loads for an 18" FAL:
http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1473693

Somewhat related - I shoot 144gr Aussie 7.62 in my FALs and will with a SCAR 17 when it gets here. Andrew McCourt told me Benchmark would be a likely powder for an Aussie duplication load with 150s.

How is the SCAR working for you so far?

Re: SCAR 17 pet load

Scope is a Burris XTR 1.5-6X with illum and ballistic hold over with a LaRue OBR mount.

The mount is high quality and can be quickly removed to utilize the irons if need be.
The scope is a compromise between medium range engagement without sacrificing up close ability.

I like that the illumination is designed to be used in low light were you would normally loose the cross hairs NOT using it as a "ring of death" CQB combo.

The scope and mount are somewhat heavy but yesterday I compared it next to a stock AR10A4 and the SCAR still felt lighter.
Scope is $800 and the mount is $245

Re: SCAR 17 pet load

I need to shoot some good ammo thru it.
This is with WCC 08' which shoots like shit....even in the bolt gun that ammo shoots 3 inch.
I'm still pretty confident this is a MOA gun with match ammo.....I will be loading up some 155 grain Amax(SCAR is a 1/12 twist) rounds to test for accuracy

Re: SCAR 17 pet load

My buddy has one and with my bolt gun and AR10 loads he was shooting 3/4-1" groups. My load is 168 gr A-Max over 44 grains Varget all to standard oal to fit in my mags. By no means was it a fully set up test he loaded up 10 and shot 2 sets of 5 rounds but it did pretty well with his 10x NF on it. He was more less just shooting for fun and the load worked out well for him. I think if he would have actually tried to shoot a perfect group he would have gotten a better one.

I forgot to add in that my bolt gun is a 1/12 and my LR-308 is 1/10.

I'm getting the following measure 10feet from muzzle. The second set of data is taken from my chrono at target 100yards downrange I will use DR: so everyone understands. The chart flows Bullet, Powder, COAL, Grns of Powder, FLR MG: Federal Large Rifle Match Grade, Each bullets speed first, Avg Velocity, Extreme Spread, Standard Deviation. All Hornady Match Brass Trimmed 2.005, Flash hole cleaned, primer uniformed and cleaned, chamferd and debured. The Z-max is the factory Zombie ammo from Hornady. 2nd to last target is using RL 15 last one is 5shots group with RL-15. Im not that great with the gun yet but all groups are around 2inchs or less.

Re: SCAR 17 pet load

The Hornady 150gr FMJ-BT and TAC is proving to be a decent practice load in my 17S. SD and ES are nothing to write home about, but considerably better than my 7.62 surplus.

Brass is Aussie 7.62
41.0 Ramshot TAC
CCI #41 Primer
COL 2.776

Avg for one 7 shot string:
2,567 fps at 10'; ES 85.1; SD 34.9

Two 5 shot groups at 300 Meters averaged 1.3 MOA.

600 Meters on a 12x18" gong produced 5 consecutive hits after I tweaked my dope.

700 Meters on the same gong (below pic) was stretching things a little, but 6 of 10 connected.
