I posted a teaser photo that Joel sent me of my stock a little while back.

Well, now I have it in my greedy little hands and finished her up with some Tru-Oil.

Here is a link to the album of the builds progression, it was a hand-me-down rifle. The metal needs refinishing and the original stock inletting was cracked. Bought a Hogue stock, regretted it. Then got in touch with Joel.

I am VERY happy with how it turned out. The only problem is that the action screws are too long with the CDI BM, so I am going to have to address that, tried a finish washer (in the pics) but that didn't work out well.

*edit* The goal of this build is a general all around rifle. I live in the wooded NE, so the only shots I get over 300 yards are across large agriculture fields. So for the most part, I wanted a 10-shot general purpose hunting and target rifle. I think she fills the role nicely now, but in the future I would like a low power scope with target turrets because hunting turrets are a PIA */edit*

Why wood? My grand father was a Korean War vet, so I grew up with the bias that guns are made of steel and wood. Here is a link to my rifle collection to show off my inherited bias.

I think that looks great. I also love the look and feel of wood. Joel has my materials, and I'm in line to have my BR stock made. As soon as he is complete with that, I will send him more wood for one similar to yours. Congrats, and enjoy!!

Real good guy to work with, I am very happy with his work. The action inletting was tighter than any I have handled before.

I am thinking of doing another build in a few years, will use him again.

Looks great. Joel is a hell of a guy and does great work. I'm about to send him another block of wood. As for the screws, if you have enough threads, just grind to fit. They're fairly cheap to replace too.

A belt sander also works well to shorten the bolt. In addition, it appears to keep the bolt cooler while removing the metal.
